Hard to believe Gibson has fallen so far off the radar that he isn't even being mentioned as a possibility. I would have him over Stallone. Though it's close.
Willis not being mentioned by anyone but me is surprising too. Action is still all he is doing now, despite his age

Arnold by a country mile. Stallone & Willis are up there as well and all have iconic figures & some of the best action flicks of all time on their resumes. But Arnold was one of those guys that just owned his roles and made movies just by being in them. Definitely one of my childhood heroes
The Rock is the best currently. He reminds me of those guys and has this undeniable charisma in any role he takes. Even in his not great movies he generally gets praise from critics and fans. I agree with an earlier post though, he doesn't yet have that iconic role that stands out

Grew up a huge Rock fans (when he was wrestling).
Initially hated him doing movies because it took him away from wrestling. And when he did leave it was for B- movies, not bad.. but small movies, or kid's movies, it was even worse. Then when they started billing him as the Rock to Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson to just Dwayne Johnson!?
With that said, I'm glad to see him doing so damn well and get so damn popular. Had a friend's gf say she didn't even know he was a wrestler. Guess we've gotten to that point.
One of my favorite roles of his is actually Pain & Gain, surprised he could play the over-emotional role so well.

Flynn? How could you leave out his best role, The Sea Hawk?

Is this even a discussion?
Arnold Schwarzenegger by a mile.

In no particular order
Arnold
Stallone
Segal
Willis
Norris
Bronson
Jcvd
Statham
Eastwood
Gibson
Cruise
The rock
Connery
They all are great I'd put Arnold 1

Thread would've been better if the op would've said best actions star after Arnold.
I want a Predator sequel where Dutch comes back to train a new group of commandos lead by the Rock. I really want to see Dwayne start doing a couple of old school 80s style action flicks.

Arnold isn't only the best Action Hero ever, he's my favorite actor.
His movies are so great. He's got humour, action, emotion (have you seen Maggie?)
His recent movies like Last Stand and Sabotage are pretty damn good. He's also been able to do movies like Twins and Junior. His resume is great.

This is a great idea. I haven't been to a theatre in about a year but I would be in a seat opening night for that one.

I think I would actually put Willis up maybe even a bit ahead of Arnold. Or at least really close to him.
Then again, I'm not a huge fan of straight action movies. If they have a good dose of humor or maybe a smidgen of intelligence I can watch them. But a lot of stuff put out under the "action" guise kind of bores me.

I think it's Arnold. But props to Tom Cruise simply because I can't stand him as a person, but I love his movies for the most part. I remember thinking in the one he did with Careron Diaz a while back, that I forgot I hated Tom Cruise for a minute.

got to be Arnold because he defined the genre as it is now understood to be
like the argument for Flynn though
