Where Does Phil Hartman-era "NewsRadio" Rank?

I'd put it as probably a top 15 sitcom ever and maybe even a top 3 90's sitcom...I rate it higher than Frazier. Those first few years with Hartman were top notch.

One of the most underrated sitcoms of the 90s.

Loved that show. Severely underrated.

I loved Maura Tierny on that show. Great cast.

It's up there for me - certainly a great homage to WKRP (consider the news a "format change"), with Hartman, as you suggest really standing out in the ensemble cast.
At the time of his death, he was my favorite television actor (carried over from his SNL work) on my favorite show airing at the time (Newsradio). Slightly higher than Frasier - Hartman had just replaced Grammer's Frasier character as my favorite.

I think Hartman is one of those guys that will sadly be lost in history as to just how good he was. You really had to be around during his heyday to appreciate him. Houseguest is still a great comedy.

Loved that show. Hartman was fantastic, as were everyone.

Pretty much a perfect cast for that show. Every main cast member brought something to the table (though Catherine was probably utilized the least). As much as I enjoyed the Kids in the Hall, I don't think Dave Foley has ever been better.
Funny, funny show.

I'll go top 5 all time, and my favorite of the 90's.

Phil made the show for me. Andy Dick would have probably been funnier in the behind the scenes takes than he was on tape.
I still can't believe Phil's wife killed him. It is really depressing to lose a guy who would have been incredible for decades to come. FWIW I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast with Dave Foley - it sounds like his marriage was only a little better than Phil's.
He (Dave) was apparently really close to killing himself as a result of the consequences of divorce. He perpetually owes tens of thousands of dollars in alimony that the courts refuse to adjust (it was set when his salary was much higher).

That was from Just Shoot Me, a very good show in its own right.
