Where are all the cats and dogs in Walking Dead?

Had a discussion with a friend today about WD. It occurred to me that there are no cats or dogs in the show. He said maybe the Walkers got them, which is a valid point. But i say there is no way Walkers got cats, they are fast and can climb. Seems like Daryl should be hunting cats, not squirrel.

Dog and cats die
Become zombie dogs and cats
Eat other dogs and cats

Eaten by zombies mostly I'd bet.
There was a one eyed dog in one episode a while back.

Probably because having animal wranglers and animal welfare observers on location is an unwanted and unnecessary expense.

Eaten by walkers.
Eaten by people.
Eaten by one another.
No great scenarios for domestic cats and dogs.

Cats and dogs are probably dead. It's not like there's anything to eat. Maybe some are feral and they don't show them.

Most have been eaten by walkers and humans.

I assume the vast majority of domesticated dogs and cats died locked in the homes of their owners after they perished. Many more were eaten I'm sure (including the ones in the homes after the owners died).
Feral ones are feasting on other animals/rodents now that there aren't really any humans around keeping the populations in check.
Also, you likely don't see many on the show because they avoid the frick out of most "people" nowadays.

I agree that this is the reason, but disagree that it's unnecessary. Even if you don't give the group a dog, you should see at least a few per season. The traits that brought man and dog together in the first place would become even more valuable as we devolve back into a uncivilized way of life.

I've watched Life After People enough to know that there would be much less dogs and cats, but wild dogs ad feral cats would still flourish. And frankly, I would think that the still living humans would get a lot of use from the few domesticated animals left on the earth.
Haven't seen the show, my mgr says its great.

I think Daryl wanted a dog but the producers didn't allow it

They are all on strike.

I'm not sure how Walkers would be able to catch either but the first season did show them eating Rick's horse so we know they do eat other animals.
In contrast to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead where they didn't go after dogs.

Which did this story line ever get closed? Was it the hospital that booby trapped that house? That doesn't really make sense since they are looking for people to "work"? Whose dog was that? Anyone have any theories?

Watched a show one time that claimed that without owners to feed them, domesticated animals would just start attacking other animals, even humans, for food.
This would probably happen until kill each other off. If you ever played the Walking Dead game, the little girl meets a playful dog until she tries to take its food, and it turns on her fast.

Zombie food
If Rick's horse was eaten alive you can guarantee zombies are eating pets too.
They're probably too afraid of humans now. :(

I just don't buy this. I can't even catch my dog as is. No way some lurching zombie catches a dog. Cats climb trees, even less likely.
