You know, at the end of the film it said to wait for his next adventure, "Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League."

Well, I'm still waiting, damnit. I think the way he stares at Jax and mumbles in Sons of Anarchy shows that Peter Weller is still at the peak of his game, but they better get moving on this long awaited project before he completely devotes himself to the History Channel.

That's awesome that someone actually made that site.

The end of the movie invites the viewer to watch for the upcoming film "Buckaroo Banzai vs. The World Crime League". This was the real title for a sequel that Sherwood Studios planned to make if this film had been successful. Unfortunately, it was a box-office bomb, and Sherwood Studios went bankrupt. After its release on video and cable, however, the film became a cult favorite, much in the same way as Mad Max (1979) (which crawled from obscurity to spawn two sequels). Legal wrangling due to the bankruptcy prevented any other studios from picking up the sequel rights, and even years later MGM had to fight through a pile of red tape simply to get the OK to re-release it onto home video (DVD).

I've heard that Big Trouble in Little China is what came of the Buckaroo sequel script....

Interesting. Didn't know of the connection, but imdb says the director for Buckaroo wrote the screenplay adaptation for Big Trouble.

I've heard that rumor, but then I remember also hearing that rumor being debunked. Or soming claiming to debunk it at any rate.

LINK

Here's some website that claims it isn't true. The original script for Big Trouble in Little China was apparently originally written by some other guys then reworked by the guy who directed Buckaroo Banzai.

Here's an interesting article about the production problems of making a sequel or more content in general. Apparently the original producer was kind of crazy, and there is some uncertaintly about who all might own the rights. At least that's an excuse that they give.

Not a great movie but John Lithgow made it worth a watch.

And speaking of Big Trouble in Little China, I've probably watched that movie 20 times. Not too long ago I was reading an article on it and they said that the "twist" is that Jack Burton is actually the sidekick in the movie. And he doesn't know it. After that I watched it again and the movie takes on a whole new level of brilliance and hilarity and explains why Burton is kinda a frick up.

I'll pass. I'm not big on sequels that come out decades after the fact.

I will say this though that the very mention of Buckaroo Banzai gets that tune stuck in my head all over again.
