Watched it last night on HBO Go and although it was pretty depressing at parts I thought it was an entertaining flick. Also, JGL's character was awesome

Caught it a couple months ago. Weird, but entertaining.

Never watch it in public, while shitfaced on red wine. I mean, a friend of a friend told me that.......

JGL is truly one of my favorite actors and I LOVED him in Brick (a true gem if haven't seen)and will give even the crappiest sounding movie a chance if he's in it...

BUT

He couldn't save this movie. Even with Rain Wilson and Piper Laurie to parlay with... The plot was non-existent and pretty much irrelevant. Hard to define conflicts and questionable motivations...horrible job of acting by that kid... Watching JGL's antics and immersion into character (He's just sooooo good at that) and the ever-present "REAL" Metallica tracks (pre-Black album SELL OUT)were the only things that kept my interest.

This had an almost "The Royal Tenanbaums" mood to it, just didn't meet follow through. Can't really give specifics why it didn't work...just gave me the impression something serious was lost in the editing or something.

Besides some of his sappier romance movies, I have to say this is one JGL flick I wouldn't sit through again. Wouldn't recommend it, either.

Grade: D-

I thought JGL was good in it, but the premise wasn't close to believable. No matter what I'm going through I wouldn't let a grown man with a beard be friends with my kid let alone move in. Hesher might have scared the kid, but he would've got choked up or shot if he didn't get out my house. I couldn't get past that. It just made no sense.
