Better than the prequels but too many new characters that don't really add to the narrative and too much dialougue (probably mostly politcal).

Less humorous limericks and one liners.....

That shite killed it for me....great movie but so far from a proper Lucas Star Wars movie.

I honestly thought the political intrigue of the prequels was the best thing about it.

How else were you going to explain palpatine's rise to power, Vader's transition to a Sith Lord, how the clone wars Obi Wan referenced in a new hope came to be and the fall of the jedi order?

Anything that deals with a politician's rise to power, military conflicts and strategies and who will be the enforcers for a society will always be political in nature.

I loved the OT, and George Lucas was once my hero for creating that universe. Then he prequel'd it.

Sadly,
quote:

What would Lucas Episode 7 have been like?

No Resistance, no First Order, no X Wings or Tie Fighters. The old cast would be hanging out at Palpatine's old crib on Coruscant. Luke would be running a Midichlorian screening program and Jedi academy, with R2 doing the numbers-crunching and C3PO as Headmaster. Leia would be the new Chancellor (wearing a white muumuu), and we'd probably be spending a mind-numbing amount of time watching aliens with bad fake Asian accents complain about the costs of restoring the government. Han would be alive, not die, and be completely useless in this. He would probably go meet Chewie at Dex's Diner and just sit there, maybe watching Chewie play SW chess against Dex. Perhaps he would make a comment about Wookies pulling arms out, but Dex would reply that he has extra arms to spare, as he scratches his arse with one of them.

There would be a random assassination plot against Leia, foiled as much by 3PO's buffoonery as by Han doing anything (although he might at least get to draw his blaster, though I doubt he would shoot. Certainly not first). The plot would be masterminded by something looking like the Geico lizard, but probably have colorful stripes.

They'd turn to Luke to solve this dilemma offically, but some Youngling Jedis (with maybe a Wookie kid in the mix) would end up figuring it out. Probably some spunky kids with a very high midichlorian count that never takes direction from their jedi instructor droids.
They'd confront the villain at the end and it might look a little dangerous, but Luke and Han show up. But somehow the bad guys turn the tables on them, only to have the Younglings save the day.

Everyone would wear beige bathrobes, except Han, who would continue to dress exactly as he has.

We would have no true dramatic tension or danger, we'd have no new young adult characters as leads.

George Lucas made 1 amazing star wars film. Episode IV.

Empire, one of the greatest films of all time, he had almost nothing to do with. And he has gone and multiple times and made the movies worse and worse with his meddling. If he had been in charge of TFA it would've been worse than the prequels.

All the cast would be cgi.

And there would be 6 hours of Senate resolutions being debated and voted on

Were the prequels proper Star Wars movies? If so, thank God this one was different. The fact Lucas complained that Disney was trying to make a movie for the fans told me all I needed to know about why he didn't need to be involved anymore.

The prequels were always a no win situation and shouldn't have been made, they should have stuck with some official canon graphic novels or storyboards to tell those stories. Vader always had to become and Palpatine always had to come out on top somehow, it was never going to end happily.

Luke was a whiney shite so you had to assume he father was too.

I always thought that Lucas should have jumped generations and told a new story and left that OT behind as references at most.

I have to say that I liked the prequel in the fact that it showed, on screen, what it was like and that the republic was FAR from perfect.

You know the thing they idolized and we automatically assume was good in 4-6. Also how the Jedi were extremely flawed and unfeeling.

Talking about taking babys from their mother's arms to train in the force.

Well Lucas has somewhat of an excuse. He was going to save the death star but had no idea if he would get to do more than one film.

JJ knew there was a trilogy and still chose to do the Death Star for the 3rd time.

All the cool shite Han Solo has been involved with up through Episode 8, and he tells Chewy he "really likes" his crossbow laser.

Really? fricking travesty to his character and the Star Wars franchise.
