What Stand Up Comedy Doesn't Suck?

Stand up that sucks:
David Cross
Nick Offerman (hilarious, but very bad at stand up)
Ricky Gervais
Rosie O'Donnel
Bob Saget
Gabriel Iglesias
Jeff Dunham (I typed in "ventriloquist idiot" to find him)

John Mulaney sucks at TV but his standup is great. Other recent guys IMO that are good.

It begins and ends with Richard Pryor and George Carlin - those are your gold standards. Eddie Murphy, while great, was almost completely derivative of Richard's style (not necessarily content).
It's a guilty pleasure, but I like Denis Leary's stand up - before he became a film/tv star. But, he ripped off Bill Hicks - quite extensively.
For some of you younger kids, Red Foxx has some quite blue (for the day) stand up routines floating around. Buddy Hackett was great.
And - although Bernie Mac is gone now - the Original Kings of Comedy is a great package of stand up - Steve Harvey was even great in that.

I had never been to a stand up comedy before. Took my wife to one in Minneopolis. We are both pretty conservative and reserved. The guy is doing his bit and a phone rings on the opposite side from us. A patron answers it..he and his wife are the closest to it.....and the comedian proceeds to make him turn all sorts of colors embarrasing him (over speaker). We look up and there is a phone next to us. Freaking almost died. He didnt call that phone and I vowed never to go back to a comedy club.

Having to be loud to be funny or cussing for the sake of sounding edgy are things that automatically turn me off to any stand up.

I know everyone looooves that guy, but I can only handle a sweaty little man with hair like the black Quaker Oat man saying muthfricka' and nigguh over and over and over for about 5 minutes
