Pretty much any emperor from AD 284-395

Depends on what kind of show we're talking about here. All will be generally depraved, as most of the emperors were inbreds with mental issues.

Kind of off topic but still related. I don't think that I remember any movie or show being done about early Roman history. Something about the kingdom of Rome or maybe even Aeneas. Has there ever been an attempt on either of those? I don't remember.

Cmon man, Virgil would really like us to forget the Aeneid.
Also to the OP, Aurelius depraved?
With Octavious we got lots of good stuff. Caligula and Commodus been done.
Something with Hadrian or Trajan could be cool.

There needs to be more focus on the later Eastern Roman Empire and their thousand year history. Emperor Justianian and Alexis Commenus had some very interesting reigns.

Would be better to do an alternate history where Emperor So and So who Actually Existed gets assassinated/Thrown out and Emperor Main Character takes control. Or he starts out in the senate or something. People will get butthurt about the show inevitably deviating from actual history, so just make your own story and it'll probably be much more interesting.

Like a boardwalk empire type show? Fiction character among real historical figures would be pretty cool.

I dunno Id rather them just jump ahead to the seige of Rhodes and Crete, Malta, then the battle of Lepanto. Really make people question what the hell when the two biggest Catholic kingdoms frick over the papacy or ally with the Muslims.

Exactly, and it adds more creative freedom while also making it clear that this is its own story

Someone wrote a book about that off a Reddit Writing Prompt and now its being made into a movie. I think its set in 1999.

Virgil wants us to forget his most famous work and one of the most important works of literature in western history?

Diocletian single handedly allowed the empire to last another 2 centuries
