Les Miserables. Not so much disappointed as terrified as soon as I realized that every single word was going to be sung; and the movie was 2:40 long.

Another candidate: John Carter. the movie itself wasn't terrible, but it was just such a wasted opportunity.
Had it been done in the same spirit as Flash Gordon, but with it's budget, it would have been a classic.

Alien 3 might be the movie I was most disappointed in that I saw in the theater. Fox waits six years since Aliens, trashes 5 or so scripts and we end up with Alien 3. Ripley and about 20 bald Brits that you can't really tell apart vs one alien on a prison colony.

While I now think that Episode 1 is a steaming pile of crap, I don't think I felt that way leaving the theater. I believe that I refused to let myself be disgusted by it when I first saw it. I was just so happy to see a Star Wars movie again I guess I made myself like it. However I did't have any desire to see it more than once which says something also.

I'm telling you it is kind of close - Indy versus the Russians, the Cartoon Menace and So-called Star Trek (2009) are my top 3, no question.

Movie - Phantom Menace. (waited in line for eight+ hours)
TV show - How I met Your Mother. (I felt like I wasted all those years of watching it)

The fact that it was a horrible pile of shite for all those years should have given you a pretty good idea that the ending would suck too.

Star Trek jumps out at me - I hated that freakin' movie when I saw it in the theatre - I warmed to it a bit later, but still have major problems with it.

What's with all the hate for Dark Knight Rises? I loved that movie.
Which brings me to my personal answer- Man of Steel. It had the Nolan feel to it, but was terrible.
Also, frick the hobbit.

I don't get the hate either. Even though it is easily the weakest of the three, and quite a comedown from TDK, I still enjoy it.
But I do roll my eyes at that football field scene.
Back to original question - Prometheus by a mile.

LOST
I got onto the LOST train a little late like into the fourth season and I loved it. I watch it all again like once every two years to see if I catch something I missed before.
Regarding some that were mentioned...
Interstellar: one of my favorite visual films of all time. It's honestly one of my favorite films, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the ending.
Prometheus: actually bought this on Blu-Ray today lol. I love this movie, but I also was never big on the Alien films. I'm 24 so they didn't exactly come out during my prime film watching years.
John Carter: This came out right after I finished with Friday Night Lights and the Riggins epidemic got me. I think this was his first starring role in a big picture, and while the movie tanked financially I've always kind of liked it. Different plot and it was an interesting story with a ending I didn't really see coming. The main chick is a total smoke too.
The most disappointed i've been was with the Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code films. I know it's super hard to adapt a book, especially in 2 hours, but I just expected so much more. Hoepfully they do a bit of a better job with Inferno.
Regarding a TV show, it has to be the cancelling of Playmakers. I actually loved the show, I was like 14 when it was on ESPN, but the NFL forced ESPN to pull the show for the negative light it cast on the league. I actually own the only season on DVD. Sigh, I'll have to be happy with that.
