The Thing was a game changer, on so many levels.

But I can't think of John Carpenter without hearing "Bad to the Bone"...

Never seen the Thing - i love all of his other work.

Watched Christine for the first time a few months ago on tv. Was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and I had forgotten that it was even made by him going in.

The man just really knew how to create an atmosphere for suspense/horror films in that late 70s/80s era.

I watched Ghosts of Mars not too long ago and thought,"how the hell is this a John Carpenter movie? Acting was comical.

Vampires, Big Trouble Little China, & Escape from New York are two of my favorites still.

I agree that he wasn't given his due credit.
JC was a master that was ahead of his time.
The Thing is one of those movies I think is close to a perfect movie.
When you have a monster movie that the main protagonist is not the monster but fear, isolation and paranoia, you have something special.

I was pretty pissed after seeing the new Thing and the weak attempt at a prequel. Not even Mary Elizabeth Winstead could save it.

That was Wes Craven.
