I binged it last night. It was the funniest show I've seen in a while. The goofiness was perfect!

REALLY over the top. At times it's almost too much, but it manages to more or less make it work. I enjoyed it.

This is a prequel back to the first day of camp the same summer as the movie, the last day of camp.

Watched it yesterday and thought it was horrible. It's like they're trying too hard to be funny. Even watched two episodes to see if it got any better and it never did

I just watched the first episode and I agree that it was not very good. It seems warmed over. Whereas the movie was driven by strange, deadpan humor, this seems to be more on the "look at these famous people acting like dunderheads" tip. I laughed at John Slattery taking off a mask to reveal another mask...Bradley Cooper went all in, which I liked....but I have to say it gave me the feeling of a more smug late-era Sandler movie, where most of the magic happened off-camera.

Gonna watch Ep. 2 and see how it goes.

Just binge watched the season. I'm mixed on this one. There are some genuine lol moments but some of the gags get a little tiring. The first episode was great, Paul Rudd was great, and Bradley Cooper had me rolling. Michael Cera was also hilarious.

I think binging it is the wrong way to watch. That style of comedy isn't meant to be watched in four hour blocks.

I missed that.

I binge watched it yesterday and really liked it. Thought it got better as it went along.

It really was like S4 of AD, though. Everyone had moved on to bigger things since the movie and the stories had to be pretty isolated (Cooper filmed his scenes in one day). Wish there could have been more interaction between the stars.

Still, really good. I don't see how anyone that liked the movie could have disliked the series. It was a mistake for anyone not familiar with the movie/Wain's humor to jump into the series.

I love the movie and loved the State on MTV. I just think I'd have liked the series better if I had spread it out. Agree with your points about not enough interaction. But, hell, I'm surprised they manged to get a couple of them back at all (Bradley Cooper).

Watched the movie and all eight episodes yesterday.

It was completely random, and stupid, and weird, and ridiculous, and awesome all at the same time.

No, it's nowhere near as good as the movie, but it is impossible for it to be. It's absolutely great that the same characters in a prequel are all super older and much more overweight than the movie. Some of the ideas and jokes feel flat, sure, but not everything can work with something like this. But all in all, I thought it was a solid effort to make something completely ridiculous and force it into taking place before the movie.

IMO you definitely have to have seen the movie before watching the series...it's a must. And if you go into it expecting some laughs and with a very "meta" mindset, I think you'll like it. It was great how they tried to fit things in to make sense within the timeline/frame of the movie (like trying to get all of Gail's backstory with different men she's dated or married all within the same day, and have her meet Ron at the end of the show).

The funniest part is how old/fat Coop looks in this.

One downfall I'd say about the show is that it had WAY too little Gene in it. While I liked the transition of Jonas to Gene, Gene is easily one of the funniest things about the movie, and I'd have liked to see more of his stupid bullshite.

I did the opposite and actually watched the show before watching the movie. Did I somehow miss Lake Bell in the movie or was she only in the show?

I laughed at the show a good bit, but I can see now it would have been much more funny if I had watched the movie first. I was completely WTF'ed about Gene and the talking can

I'm not sure why anyone would want to watch the show first, unless you're just looking for a show and have never heard of the movie.

But the movie is so weird on its own, and a lot of the background of that is what the show was trying to elaborate on.

I can imagine someone watching the show and being VERY confused.

Oh, I most certainly was. I had heard of the movie, but I heard the tv show was a prequel so I figured I'd just watch it in order.

I can't believe I did that because I most certainly know the Star Wars rules.

I have to say, even though I had no clue what was going on for most of the time, I still laughed. I'm probably going to re-watch again now that I've seen the movie.

So I watched the movie this weekend to see if I'd have interest and it was pretty meh. Having such a future star studded before they were big cast is probably the most interesting thing about the movie. Was this a parody of other movies I haven't seen that might have made it more funny?

The lady and I had never seen the movie before so we wanted to at least start it before we start the Netflix series. We didn't finish it, but man it was pretty good when I was awake.

We'll try to finish the movie and start the series after we finish The Leftovers.
