Watched Into The Wild on Netfix last night (Spoilers)

First time I'd ever seen the whole thing. I caught the very end on TV a while back and wasn't really sure what to make of it. Stumbled across some stuff on Christopher McCandless the other day and then saw that Netflix had recently added the movie so I decided to give it a shot.
I really enjoyed it a whole lot more than I thought I would. Emile Hirsch was very well cast in the role and had a great performance. I started it with the intention to break it up into 2 halves but I ended up watching the entire 2 and a half hours in one sitting. The whole story just drew me in. Before I watched the movie I basically thought that McCandless was just some dumb kid who got lost in the woods and starved to death, but the movie made it so much more than that. I really started to admire the character for his courage and determination throughout the film. If you have some time to kill and haven't seen this yet I would highly recommend it.
TL:DR - Thought it was very good.

I fvcking love this movie! Hirsch is legit as shite in it (wish he'd get more good role by the way). The music is badass in it, and the scenery is incredible. Vince Vaughn was pretty funny and good in it as well. The old man was the best guy for me.
I would love to do what the main character in that movie did
***SPOILERS***
(minus the dying part)

My favorite parts of the movie are the people he meets like the old man and vince vaughn's characters, the hippies and the european couple (that scene made me ). The relationships he fosters with these people in what seems like such a short amount of time was incredible to me.

I bet when the main character was on his death bed he was pissed he didn't smash that trailer chick.

that's pretty much what happened, from start to finish

He kind of was. He didn't bring a fricking map.

Well yeah, I guess so. But why did he do it? Why give up your entire savings and almost a certain successful future to go out and be essentially homeless? That's what I found interesting. I think the movie does a good job at trying to explain his rationale. I'd like to read the book to maybe gain some more perspective from it, but I honestly think he was happier to die in that bus in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness than he would've been living the life society had dictated for him.

Done, hope I didn't ruin it for you.

Not for me, I've seen it. Just in case somebody else hasn't.

But why did he do it?
because he's a completely selfish and deluded person

life society had dictated for him
what does this even mean?

Selfish to give all your money to charity?

what does this even mean?
It means he went against the norm.

I'm in your camp on this one. I don't see why people romanticize him. Thousands, if not millions, of people forego what their parmts have planned for them and travel the world on minimal funds and equipment. But what he did is like heading out to sea in a rowboat and being romanticized when you starve to death.

I really enjoyed the movie as well. I wish Hirsch would get more work. I have enjoyed pretty much everything I've seen him in.

Having his family worry was dickheaded though.

I agree. That's the only real problem I had with the story.
