Carol Danvers will be introduced before her movie, so the star will be big no matter what.

Emily Blunt will be Danvers.

I think they desperately want Jessica Chastain. She's already done the military thing (Zero Dark Thirty), she has sci fi geek cred, and she's a bit of a draw who has two Oscar noms on her resume. She checks every box (she's also an American and they can get her to dye her hair blonde).

I would almost say no way on this, but it is super solid casting.

No to Sackhoff, as much as I do like Starbuck.

Dr. Strange is going to be a tough sell

I guess we are about to find out if Benedict Cumberbatch is a legit box office draw. I am stoked for this movie, mainly because he is starring in it.

dr strange has much more potential than ant-man. Dr strange is integral to MCU, and its a travesty that he has been omitted so far. Plus he has a really good origin story.

I am more hopeful for this than any other stuff.

Ant-man was always a meh character to me. Hank was just a whiner, I didn't really see what made him unique.

Hank would've been a much darker and intriguing character. He would be the black sheep in the avengers, especially if they played up his jealousy for Cap.

Instead they continue with the more family friendly character that can easily be swapped in and out personality wise with the others.

Not sure if this came up before but here was a small advert for the movie where Leslie Bibb reprises her role from Iron Man 1&2.

She's kinda like a Nancy Grace style reporter now

She'll also be in Civil War.

She is a total smoke for a 40-year-old.

So let's revisit this one:

Box Office: 'Ant-Man' Has Topped 'Green Lantern'

Not great news, but wait...

quote:

Yet like many movies that find themselves on the defensive after opening weekend, Ant-Man did not wither and die after its first three days. At $234m and counting, it will soon surpass the $263m worldwide cume of The Incredible Hulk. It will eventually surpass the $353m cume of X-Men: First Class and the various totals of the first two Fantastic Four movies. Heck, inflation and 3D bump aside, it will likely surpass the $374m total of Batman Begins, the $391m total of Superman Returns, and the $385m cume of the first Star Trek. All of this, by the way, on a mere $130m budget, making it one of the cheaper “big” comic book superhero movies of the last fifteen years. And it’s not quite done yet. Domestically, it’s heading towards a $150m-$175m total, and worldwide is a frustratingly open question since it doesn’t open in Greece, China, and Japan until September. And this will be among the lower-grossing Marvel Studios films thus far. So much for superhero fatigue.

quote:

For the moment, one of the lowest-grossing Marvel Studios movies is set to out-gross several X-Men films, and nearly every non-MCU comic book superhero movie not based around Batman, Superman, Wolverine, or Spider-Man on a budget about the size of what Sam Raimi spent on Spider-Man back in 2002. And they are doing that on an opening weekend that was all-too-similar to a number of lower-profile or outright lower-grossing comic book superhero movies from the last decade. Marvel’s alleged failures are still the envy of everyone else.

Why would she be Captain Carol if Carol Danvers is a Major in the Air Force when she gets her powers?

I haven't the slightest clue who would play her if Emily Blunt says no.

Why not Elisha Cuthbert with Eva Green as Moonstone?

People get tired of lots of things. I feel like the Foreign explosion of films is kind of over.

For a few years there we had some big, well produced films from across the Ocean. Now? They are tough to find in stateside theaters most of the time.

Pure action movies floundered for a long time after the 90s. It seems we might see a resurgence (and it might come at the cost of pure comic book movies).

Didn't I read somewhere that Netflix has a Defenders series in the works? Will there be a separate actor playing Dr. Strange? That'll be weird but there's no way to do Defenders with no Dr S. And its hard to see Cumberbatch doing Netflix while he's the big ticket.

Did Dr. Strange play a role in the Civil War storyline? My comic reading days were long over by then but I have a vague idea of how it all went down.

The Netflix Defenders series will be Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. It's basically the tv version of Avengers. All of those characters will get their own series before Defenders, Daredevil will have at least two.

Good for Ant-man, but to be fair, these films were rebooting franchises that had become stale. Ant-man is in the midst of Marvels very successful run. Not exactly a fair comparison.

That's definitely not the Defenders of my day.

Dr. Strange, Hulk, Prince Namor plus whoever happened to be freeloading at Dr Strange's party pad in Greenwich Village.

What's going on is Marvel has created a shared universe that has been a major hit with audiences. Now you have two other studios (DC, FOX) wanting in on the action. If you think there's a lot now, just wait until next year.

Well I'd expect any Batman film to outgross any Ant-Man film or X-Men film. The Tim Story F4 movies weren't really reboots.

I'm willing to be that Ant-Man out-grosses Tranks's F4 reboot.

Fox has said on/off that they want to do a shared universe, but contractually they might not be able to do so. They have two totally separate licensing contracts with their Marvel IPs..

Since both of these have a running clock, they can't exactly pump them out to fulfill obligations.
