I know the reviews are crap but I saw it last night and it was really damn funny. Critics are being too tough on this film. Anyone else check it out?

Saw it friday night with wife and her aunt and uncle.
We laughed out loud throughout probably half of the movie. It was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.
I think critics are killing it because of the style of humor (dark, sophomoric) and the fact that it's a reboot/sequel to a classic National Lampoon movie.
But I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The prancer was hilarious. The Korean GPS every time they went somewhere had me rolling.

Why is there a button for that and why is it a top hat?

I thought it was great. Hit all of the right notes and introduced some great new characters. The shoutouts to the original were spot on.
Doing a 180 and replacing Cousin Eddie with Thor was a stroke of genius. Instead of visiting the moron relative, you visit the relative that is unbelievably successful and work off of that.
And you can't hear that Lindsey Buckingham song without immediately getting into the mood.

Yea, and they still gave eddie the shoutout when they were covered in shite.
The Chevy/Bev cameo was done perfect IMO, and they got me when he raised the garage for the car, I just knew it was the station wagon, and it wasn't.

Also, the younger son talking shite and cursing the whole movie and picking on his older brother was hateful, but so damn funny.

The bedroom stroll with him raising his leg had me dying.

The script was much funnier on paper and there was an entire "burning man" scene that was cut unfortunately (included a mini Freaks and Geeks reunion)
The reviews were a bit harsh and really killed some momentum toward a 30M weekend. The New York Times and AP seemed to like it, but not enough did.
At least the sets looked really good and I am sure most people have no idea it was shot in Atlanta.

Never judge a comedy by what critics say unless it's good reviews. Bad reviews mean nothing.
We're the Millers was funny.
A million ways to die in the west
Miss March got a 5% on RT and 4 friends and I laughed the entire movie.

Him looking back in the rear view mirror and seeing himself in the rear rear view mirror cracked me up.
What an awesome accessory for a car.

Why didn't they just get Anthony Michael Hall to play Rusty again?

Because Ed Helms is much funnier, is currently way more popular, and the joke has always been that Rusty and his sister are played by a different actor in each film.

The car was one of the most difficult parts of the production process. We essentially had 12 weeks to design it and have 4 versions built for shooting. And the first two weeks were spent on a different concept that was eventually scrapped by the studio and directors in favor of what you see now. The original name was the Incestia, which I thought was funny when it was put forward.

Who are you again?
Why was the freaks and geeks reunion cut if you are some kind of insider?

You left off that he is a tool.

Yep .... Was the art director .... We spent a lot of time and money on a burning man type set that featured the freaks and geeks guys but they cut it for some reason (it's visible in a trailer)
