Fantasy

quote:

and what genre would LOTR fall under...

Fantasy

Yes, fantasy is often grouped with sci-fi in movie and book stores. But that two couldn't be any more different. Fantasy relies on a fantastical element that is not realistically possible (Original era star wars, there is only one single "mitochlorian" reference. It is a weak tool anyways). All science fiction should reference a POSSIBLE realism. Therefore, usually things have a reason or explanation to exist.

also think we need a top Western and Animated movie poll...

Will add it to the list of possibilities

No doubt a great film. Definitely down for the foreign film list at some point.

I don't think Fantasy as a genre is robust enough to support a Top 50 list.

nah that'd be pretty tuff.

i saw on alot of internet list that they included the comic movies as sci fi. i think theres probably enough to do a comic book list on its own.

It happens, and I wouldn't be against it (see first post), but they aren't really sci-fi. Comic Movies=Star Wars. They have the superficial tenants of sci-fi mostly down, but they lack a true science fiction intention. Star Wars is a Fantasy, Comic Movies are essentially action movies.
