Spoiler Warning.
The wife doesn't go through with the downsizing and divorces him. The scene with him signing papers is him signing the divorce papers. The rest of the movie is him living his life as a downsized person.

So the middle class once again has to save the world for the super rich and the super poor?
There is going to be some obvious commentary about the death of the American Dream - Damon has been doing quite a few of these social commentary movies...Elysium, that Fracking movie, etc.
Spoiler Alert:
In the downsized world, their combined income of $152,000 converts to $12.5 million. (That immediate wealth mainly applies to middle-class folks -- even after shrinking, the poor stay poor.) While the rich don't have to shrink.
