And they're keeping their excecutive producer. So it should keep the same feel and humor.

Excited as hell... This made my day.

But holy shite, Netflix dropped the ball. I don't have netflix, but do have access to prime, so works for me. However, when I think about watching a television series, I think of Netflix, not Amazon.

They really just need to keep doing what they were doing. No need to fix what isn't broken.

i imagine this was EXPENSIVE

this is a global brand gamble. i imagine amazon is more capable of taking that risk than netflix (who has taken a lot lately and not all panned out)

Amazon is improving. The Man in The High Castle looks like it will be good, people seem to like that new romcom original show Catastrophe, they have lots of British stuff like Downton Abbey, USA shows like Suits, many seasons of many HBO shows Veep/Newsroom/TrueBlood/etc. There's not as much overlap with TV shows on NetFlix like there are for movies, but you can definitely find stuff to watch on Prime.

The price tag might have been too high for Netflix. Remember, this is a world wide show.

And they have full creative control. An uncensored Clarkson should be awesome.

My guess is Amazon just outbid everyone.

If they can get anywhere near the production value of Top Gear then it should be great.

OT Thread says it was $250 Million. If true, I can see why Netflix backed off. They already have a ton of money tied up in shows like Marco Polo, Daredevil, Peaky Blinders....etc. Marco Polo supposedly had the highest production costs for any fictional TV show made last year. Even higher than Dr Who. Not sure how true that is, but I'm sure it was expensive though.

Marco Polo was like $80M or something and it looked like it

that was a beautiful arse series to watch

it was often, however, painful to listen to

I'm sure that much Asian nudity did cost a penny or two.

It was a good show but it took so many liberties with history and kind of got boring by the last four episodes.

the writing was mediocre most of the time and sometimes downright bad, and the acting followed

Not Clarkson, but still.

Actually though, having them uncensored worries me a little. Part of what made them so good was how subtle they could be and the lengths they'd have to go to to make fun of things without being obvious about it. I hope they don't lose it.
