Probably one of the greatest and most overlooked actors ever (possibly best living actor). Hackman's film list is so good I feel conflicted when even trying to make a list. Example, I absolutely love Hoosiers but it's not a top 5 film and could even be left out the top 10.

The Hackman catalog is as deep as any actor I can think of, it's ridiculous!!!

1. The French Connection (Part 1 and Part 2)
2. The Conversation
3. The Royal Tenenbaums
4. Scarecrow
5. Unforgiven
6. Night Moves
7. Mississippi Burning
8. Bonnie and Clyde
9. Under Suspicion
10. Hoosiers

Superman, The Poseidon Adventure, Get Shorty, Enemy of the State, I Never Sang for My Father, Young Frankenstein, A Bridge Too Far, No Way Out, The Firm, The Birdcage, Under Fire, Crimson Tide

There are a bunch of other movies I didn't even list that could be arguably in the top 10 Here is his catalogue LINK

Here is a list of films Gene Hackman almost stared in LINK

He really was pretty incredible. I came here to say his Crimson Tide performance belongs in the top ten, but it is hard to justify with what you already have listed. That really says something about his body of work.

Hard to pick a top 10 there. Several of your honorable mentions have a good argument to be higher.

My favorite actor. He makes the movies he's in better.

I absolutely love Crimson Tide too. If someone put Crimson Tide in their top 10 I could understand why they did. The thing that separates Hackman is his ability to make movies seem believable. Another one of those "almost unbelievable" films I'm talking about that Hackman carried was Runaway Jury.

I'll throw in Downhill Racer. He's great as the coach.

A couple of my favorites I didn't see mentioned:

He's awesome as the old coach in The Replacements.

He's the best part of The Quick and the Dead.

Welcome to Mooseport is worth watching because of him.

And his voice acting in Antz was awesome. I wish he did more of that.

Also, Behind Enemy Lines is a solid flick as well.

No doubt, Hackman plays the best villains.

I've only seen these two, I suck at life. But I do own Royal Tennubauns, just have not watched it yet.

1) Young Frankenstein
2) Bird Cage
3) Bonnie and Clyde
4) Mississippi Burning
5) Superman

I was never a fan of the French Connection. Too much hype when it came out and my expectations were way high.

I still haven't seen The Conversation. One of the classics that I'm saving for when I have the opportunity to really settle in and watch it.

Maybe the most natural and effortless actor ever.

Hackman has always been very selective about the films he takes.

It's a good movie but not one of his best imo. Kind of puts the mirror back on you to tell you the truth. That's why I know you are really bad at evaluating films or never watched most of the Hackman film catalog?

Again, I've said it in the OP that there are movies some of you believe should be in top 10 that are not even on my list. Hackmans filmography is that good.

I've seen every movie on your list. You "know" precisely jack shite. Don't confuse your own opinion with "the truth."

Go ahead and continue using that little mirror to help you shave your a-hole.
