Movie holds up pretty well.

"Rev. Sykes: Miss Jean Louise. Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing."

If that scene does not get to you, you are dead inside.

Hell, my wife can tear up during the opening credits.

And there's always this . . .

Older Scout: [narrating] I was to think of these days many times. Of Jem, and Dill, and Boo Radley, and Tom Robinson, and Atticus. He would be in Jem's room all night, and he would be there when Jem waked up in the morning.

And most powerfully,

"And so a quiet, respectable, humble Negro who had the unmitigated temerity to 'feel sorry' for a white woman

Watch it with my dad few weeks ago.

Great time.

Especially since my dad is essentially Atticus.

If I have a son, I'm naming h Atticus in honor of my dad.

Hasn't Harper or Truman said as much?

We actually have a chifforobe in our spare room right now. It's also a contemporary piece of furniture. Bought in L.A. a few years ago. Pretty handy to have hanging space plus drawers.

And, in a pinch, you can bust it up for kindling.

One of my favorite scenes is when the sherriff comes to get Atticus because there's a rabid dog in the street. You can tell that up until that point Jem and Scout kind of thought of their dad as a lovable goofball and didn't take him seriously.

So here comes the sherriff, a law man and someone the kids think highly of, and he asks Atticus to shoot the dog because he's the best shot in town. As Atticus takes the shot, you can see the change in perception of Atticus in the kid's eyes. They suddenly realize that their dad isn't just "Atticus the lovable but gullible and simple man" but so much more.

I think most kids have this realization hit them at some point. That scene just nails it.
