Watched this last night. Anyone else have trouble following? Left me confused as frick. Had to read the plot on the internet afterwards. Thought the movie was deliberately confusing, more so than it needed to be.

I have no desire to ever see that.

I don't know how to put it, but I felt like they made it deliberately confusing in a way to be "cool". Like they cut from scene to scene and didn't tell you enough information to follow...

Like I said. I don't know how to put it, but I felt manipulated by the movie.

My god this movie was a chore to get through. Very disappointed. I found myself dozing off a few times during the movie. At the end I was just hoping for the resolution to finally come as I was so lost as to what the hell was happening. I read a synopsis afterwards and it cleared some things up, but the movie IMO did a horrible job of telling this story. Big waste of 2 hours.

it was well cast, had a nice cinematographic vibe...poor construction...maybe should have been two movies or something

That is how I felt as well. I couldn't watch it from start to finish.

From what I have gathered if you didn't read the book beforehand there was a 99.9% chance you would be extremely lost.

I thought it was just me as I was a bit inebriated. But the gf was lost too.

I didn't mind the pacing of the movie, it was just the lack of cohesion that put me off.

It was very poorly edited for certain. I had to watch it a second time to put it all together

I read somewhere that when people say they want realism in movies, especially spy type movies, they don't mean it b/c Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is what you get.
Give me James Bond or Jason Bourne any day

There is a difference between wanting realism and making something deliberately confusing. The movie jumps around between storylines without any attempt to explain what's going on. Having a narrator might have been nice.

Mini-series was better. The movie was so chopped up, I don't know how anyone could truly enjoy it without knowing the story going in.

The trailer was misleading. It makes it seem far more intense than the actual movie.

So true. I had some difficulty just trying to keep up with the plot bouncing around all over the place. good actoring overall, but not enough to make up for the confusion.

Book was good. But it was one of those books (like all LeCarre books) that cannot translate to the screen. Never should've been made in the first place. It does help if you are familiar with his books as most of the characters appear in several books.

I watched it for a second time and found it much better than the first. Mini series is a easier to follow

The hardest part for me was keeping track of everyone's name. There were so many characters, and they just used their names in conversations (almost like the audience were expected to know their names beforehand). The second time I watched was a breeze, and it was much more interesting. I loved the movie. It had a perfect climax/ending too.
