Anyone else watch the trailer and get a "Satan's Alley" vibe?

It looks really good. HBO hasn't gotten much wrong in their original content. So I am pretty confident it will be good.

It looks like a cool concept that will unfortunately be ruined by political bias, like the Newsroom.

Only for people who can't separate their own politics from entertainment, which I know is obviously a major issue for so many on this board.

What a crock of horseshite.

I was a HUGE fan of West Wing. Heck only Godfather has talked about West Wing more than me.

Newsroom was a heavily flawed, heavily slanted pile of crap that wasn't remotely realistic. Show me the Republican News Anchor who attacks Republicans all day and NEVER attacks liberals and then maybe we can talk. Until then, Newsroom was a steamer.

Studio 60 and Newsroom somewhat prove that Sorkin needed someone like Wells to tone him down a bit.

If a liberal said this about a conservative-leaning show, we would call them a whiny SJW. Whats the conservative equivalent?

You don't have to judge everything based on your political views.

The difference is that I will give it a shot. HBO has a history of making shows that only show catholicism in a terrible terrible light. The Catholic Church is a flawed institution, but when one media outlet consistently demonizes it over and over and over again atthe expense of story telling, it shows that they are the ones who cannot seperate politics from storytelling.

Yes, I'm a conservative. I'm a conservative who's favorite show for over a decade was The Daily Show with Jon stewart (Noah is pretty much unwatchable these days). I'm a conservative who rips on conservatives and liberals constantly. However, I get very frustrated when I see storytellers ignore one side or focus ridicule exclusively on one side at the expense of story telling. HBO has earned my suspicion when it comes to them telling stories about the Catholic Church. Just as Sorkin couldn't contain his need to bash conservatives sunk The Newsroom, I fear people within HBO's hatred and ignorance of the Catholic Church will sink "The Young Pope".

With that being said, I really hope I'm wrong.

Not true at all because we would eventually stop watching it. Not demand the show be pulled from the network while calling all involved sub-human racists.

I watched all of season 1 of newsroom and I'll give the pope a chance. I'm not going to watch a show if it spends the whole hour insulting me or my beliefs which is about what the Newsroom did.

West Wing only demonized 2 republicans. It occasionally showed democrats in a sour light too. Newsroom was nothing more than the MSNBC Olberman Maddow hour.

Having said that, one of these days I'll even watch season 2 simply because I did like all of the actors involved with the show and I'm interested to see if they toned down the rhetoric like Sorkin said he would after season 1.

Y'all do realize that this is about an antipope and not a real Pope, right? He was a schismatic Roman Catholic priest. He was the head of the "True Catholic Church," a small conclavist group that elected him Pope Pius XIII in October 1998 - not the "real" Catholic Church.
I'm still pumped about watching this, but the whole antipope thing lessened my enthusiasm just a tad. I was hoping for a modern day "Borgias."

I've already watched all the episodes - the whole series has already aired in GB and is available on torrents.

It IS about the real pope, I don't know where you got the idea that it wasn't. He lives in the Vatican.

It's a very weird and visually arresting show.

Why do they call it "The Young Pope"? Lucien Pulvermacher was 80 years old when he declared himself Pius XIII.

Okay, my bad - it's not about the "real" Pope Pius XIII.

Yep, it's fiction. It's about Lenny Belardo (Jude Law). The first American pope.

And people or going to love it or hate it. I don't see any in between.

For example, these are the opening credits.

I can't wait to see what y'all think about this show.
