Ziggy fricking sucks.
I enjoyed a lot of things in season 2...but Ziggy single-handedly makes it the worst season.

Felt the same way about Season 2 the first time I watched it. It got better at the end but I did feel like I had to push through a bit. However, Seasons 3 and 4 were amazing and when I re-watched the series I appreciated Season 2 a lot more.

Ziggy ruined the super bowl when he appeared on that commercial.
That's how much I hate him.

Season 5 is easily the worst season. It is actually pretty bad and the reason I take issue with some of the overwhelming praise the show gets.
Season 4 was my favorite and I still reflect on it 10+ years later. The plight of those kids is so heartbreakingly poignant. Good, smart, resourceful kids who have no chance in life because they are growing up in a virtual meat grinder.
Season 2 felt out of place, but I still thought it was pretty good, in spite of Ziggy.
The best thing about The Wire, IMO, is the sprawling diversity of its characters.

not true. i watched westworld series and lots of new movies i dont get to see at the theaters this way.
wire is slow, boring and soap-operaish and that has a direct bearing on being able to stay awake/interested if you're hopped up on 5 cups of coffee.
its just not a 'late night' viewing type of show while you're having to learn characters and waiting..waiting....waiting...for some kind of payoff.
every episode is the same; cops arguing with management about doing their job and the cons sitting on a couch in the projects reflecting on how best to sell dope.

NYPD Blue was a way better show
Wow, you could have at least said Homicide: Life On The Street or The Shield. Season 2 was a necessary exploration of the source of the drug smuggling and the decline of the inner city working class. Don't worry, the old characters come back in to focus. Season 5 was the worst. Seasons 3 and 4 might be the best, but you already said 1 was just ok so you are not going to be a fan.

Season two is the best of the five, imo. Some people don't like it because it was a departure from the cops vs. street gangs story of season one. It was still that story, but it 'zoomed out' to include the entanglement of the drug trade with corporate and political concerns.
That was one of the things that made the series so great, that every season they expanded their scope to show how all of these things are intertwined, from the street dealers and junkies to the cops and the politicians and major industry and the schools and, sadly, the media in the most poorly imagined storyline of the series in season 5.
Also, if you want to get the show, you need to devote all your attention to it. Put down your mobile device and watch. Everything that happens in the show happens for a reason. It all contributes to the overall story. It's not a show for casual viewers. There are a lot of characters to get to know and a lot of depth and detail to the plot lines. You can't skip anything or you'll miss something. I don't know of another show I can say that about.

As SFP has said before once you're to season 4 you'll appreciate 2

S2's main problem is that it follows S1, which is awesome IMO. I agree with those who have said that if S2 was a standalone miniseries, it would be great. But in the world of The Wire, it lacks.
S5 is the weakest season IMO. It just gets out of hand and silly at times. But that being said, it's still fantastic television and there are lots of great moments in S5, including the best "finale montage" of the series.
I rank the seasons: 1,4,3,2,5. But they are all solid though, and to this day it's still by far the best show I have ever watched.
I do agree though, that if OP is two full seasons in and isn't feeling it, that it isn't for him. Sometimes a show just misses with someone.

I thought season 1 was fantastic. Got halfway through season 2 and got bored to death with it and gave up

Prop Joe was getting that good dope from the Greeks which led to Stringer compromising some of the Barksdales towers...to the chagrin of Avon.

David Simon was only given 10 episodes to work with for the final season.

It gives the best boobies, though, in season 2

All i mean is there isn't a direct connection that couldn't be written around had that story not existed.

I thought the series was good, but nowhere close to great. It is VERY slow and as soon as you get invested in characters, the story changes.
Edit: Also, The Wire isn't even in the same stratosphere as Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.

I do like Bubs a lot too although he wasn't featured much in Season 2.

I just finished my second watch of the entire series.
I hated season 2 the first time but I really got more out of it on the second watch. Frank Sobotka is a tragic character and ends up being my favorite of the season after the rewatch. Frank just wanted to help out the union and keep the dock operating for the community.
Season 5 was a bit silly but I love how it highlighted McNulty's character and how much he cared about his job...he literally had the whole city scrambling trying to solve that case haha.
The only other series ending episode that I think competes with The Wire was Six Feet Under...
Also, I love Bubbles and I can say that about two different television shows lol.

Not at all. I think you feel that way because you really want to get back to the story from season 1, but looking back season 2 is really, really good.
