The West Wing - Opinions from the right

I've rewatched The West Wing multiple times and am currently on a rewatch.
As someone who is on the left, I am curious as to the opinion of the series from those of differing political viewpoints.

Probably the same as most people...it had some great moments, it also had a lot of standard Aaron Sorkin filler with actors tripping over themselves to rapid-fire super serious, super smart lines with no emotion and no impact.
Generally, I think it was probably more fair to conservative views than most shows. They actually allowed some of their conservative characters to be smart. And of course, Jed did the unthinkable in appointing a brilliant conservative to the Supreme Court as part of a compromise with congress.
One consistent weakness I think is that Sheen just wasn't capable of displaying humility, so they left his character a little one-dimensional and perfect in his own mind.

It's a Sorkin property so everyone on the left is complex, super clever and super earnest while everyone on the right is a cookie cutter, stereotypical Neanderthal.
That's the way everything Sorkin does turns out good or not.

thanks for the response.
Sure. It's very idealilistic
Very astute on President Bartlett, I agree.

Sorkin always takes the left and puts them in a positive light driven by high minded ideals as if he cannot conceive of anyone on the left being corrupt or nefarious. Even when his leftist characters make mistakes, it is always with the intent of "doing good."
His characters on the right are always 2 dementional evil doers.
He his very hackish politically.

I'm on the right and it's the best show ever made.

Yeah, that's not true

I'm fairly conservative and while the show has its stereotypical liberal idealistic moments, it actually is fairly even-handed. My favorite character was Josh Lyman followed closely by Leo McGarry.

As someone whose not really left or right as it concerns American politics, I thought it was a great show but don't believe for a second that most people who occupy the West Wing are that moral and idealistic.
That said, Leo's character is based on Leon Panetta who, by all accounts, was a great Chief of Staff and was one of the main reasons for Clinton's success in office.

I'm on the right
It's in my top 3 shows
It became a whole lot cooler to shite on Sorkin post-Newsroom, which is the show that deserves scorn.
That there isn't any apparent dishonesty/corruption/etc. among the show's main characters (including characters on the right) is a fair critique, but it's still a great show.

I'm on the middle right and I think it's the best TV show of all-time.
I think it's pretty fair to both sides. It focuses more on actual issues and resolving them than heavily insulting the other side.
It's pretty obvious that there was a drop off after Sorkin left. Season 5 was the worst of the 7 and it's still very good.

i'm extreme right wing and i thought it was fair.
like in real life, the people on the left had lofty ideals and were made to seem a little morally superior, but they didn't just trash the right because they were on the opposite side.
murphy brown and newsroom were much less even handed.

I like the show. But, it's easy to get almost everything right when all dialog is scripted.

I just started watching it a few months ago and we're about halfway through season 2.
Knowing it was about a Democrat administration, I had a feeling they were going to portray those on the left as the "good guys" and Republicans as the "bad guys" (which they have) but its not that bad. Its a TV show, you have to have some conflict, otherwise it would be boring as hell. The writers have made the characters likeable to the point that its tough to hate them even if you disagree with their political ideals.
With that being said, if a show like this was made today it would probably be unwatchable.

Let me put it this way: if The West Wing had been devised with the opposite political persuasion, liberal progressives would be screaming bloody murder and branding the show as the worst propaganda ever.
