the best opening credits of any movie ever made.

I can't think of one better.

The Dr. Manhattan origins scene is my favorite part of the movie. I'll pop the bluray in just to watch that scene.

And everyone should watch the Director's Cut.

I think the Tales of the Black Freighter works better in the comic than in the movie. I tried to look for a relationship with the story and I thought I found one but I think overall it detracts from the movie. It works fine as a standalone though.

I didn't mean the cut that includes the Pirate Cartoon (if there is one). I meant the extended cut that is all film.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. The Ultimate Cut box set is awesome for fans of this movie. Highly recommend the extras.

Scenes that give me chills:

The Owlship rising from the river.
Manhattan in Viet Nam, incinerating the Viet Cong.
Manhattan's architecture rising from the surface of Mars.
Rorschach in the prison food line.
The Comedian hanging on to the front of the Owlship.

Add Rorschach being obliterated and when he talks about his first kill.

"Men go to prison, dogs get put down."

I'm surprised the movie isn't quoted more. It has some great lines.

When comic fans get together, "I did it thirty-five minutes ago." and "I'm not locked up in here with you. You're locked up in here with me." are used fairly often.

So many other good ones you don't hear often though.

My personal favorite was always.

What happened to the American Dream? It came true! You're looking at it.

"Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon."

I always saw Rorschach as the version of Batman who fell and broke his one rule.

A few of my favorites:

quote:

Laurie Juspeczyk: Everyone will die!
Jon Osterman: And the universe will not even notice.

quote:

Laurie Juspeczyk: The most powerful thing in the universe... still just a puppet.
Jon Osterman: We are all puppets, Laurie. I'm just the puppet who can see the strings.

My biggest gripe with this movie is the soundtrack.

It's so literal and hackish on Snyder's part.

"Hey, this scene depicts ______, let's find a song with that either in the title or the lyrics. That'll work!"

I love it. I watch the Ultimate cut all the time. It's like 3 plus hours.

The Dr. Manhattan creation story is one of the coolest things I've ever seen on film.

There are so many great ideas in that story that come from the original material. I felt like Snyder did a fantastic job portraying the core concepts in the comic.

I think that Snyder's greatest accomplishment is that he prevented us from getting a really, really terrible Watchmen adaptation. The biggest complaints against the film are that he tried to follow the book too closely and that he didn't follow the book closely enough.

We could've gotten a League of Extraordinary Gentleman type of adaptation, that just threw the book out of the window and kept a few of the characters.

No matter how badly you hate the Watchmen film, it could've been so much worse.

We were close to having Arnold Scharzenneger as Dr. Manhattan, talking about humanity being "no moah thahn a bunch ahf fleeeas!"
