The Wailing (2016) - An excellent Korean horror movie from Na Hong-jin

Caught this last night. Really good movie. I've read some reviews saying you have to be up to date on Korean superstition to really get it, but I didn't think so. A basic understanding of religion would be enough.
Just a really well-made movie that kept me entertained and interested for the entire 2.5 hours.
*Keep the thread spoiler free since I imagine most here haven't seen it yet.

can you post a premise without spoiling?

I saw this on Netflix...looked interesting and I'm generally a fan of Korean horror films.

Loved this movie, just caught a new one last night. Watch Train to Busan. It's 97% on rotten tomatoes and they are already planning an American remake. Not a very violent movie but very intense. Like a combination of 28 days later and snowpiercer.

Will definitely check this one out.

South Korean mountain village has strange, murderous, horrific things happen after a Japanese man moves into town. A cop investigates the Japanese man and calls upon a South Korean shaman to help. shite goes down.
The movie really does have depth. I was left with a few questions to ponder, but I always enjoy thinking about a movie a few hours after watching it. It's a "pay close attention to every scene" kind of movie.

Train to Busan was great. It's the kind of movie World War Z should have been.

Those damn Koreans make some great movies.
haven't seen this one yet but heard great things. I saw a thread on foreign film of 2016 on reddit and korea had a few other that made top 10
I wish I would have saved that list

What a great recommendation, OP! Just watched and was blown away by this movie. Leave it to the Koreans & Japanese to create a quality thriller/suspense.

Just watched this a couple weeks ago. It was a really creepy and fun story.

Several of these are on Shudder. Best of foreign horror section.

In the vein of Korean movies.
On Netflix, "The Tiger" is pretty good.
Takes place in Korea in 1925 during Japan's occupation.
Reminded me of an Asian version of "The Ghost and the Darkness."
