ok so just watched this movie and it was pretty fricking awesome. this is one of those "going to hell" type movies (like Event Horizon or more recently, Baskin).

the budget for this movie was super low per wiki and it's amazing (especially compared to the utter shite show that was Beyond the Gates).

the plot isn't the most sensical (although it is much more linear that Baskin) and obviously the acting isn't amazing (although Knives Chow has a role), but it's just one of those sadistic, tense, gorefests that has no CGI and is pretty depraved. the plot is basically people end up together at a hospital and shite gets weird, and then it gets REALLY weird. basically, occult things are afoot at the local hospital.

if you're ever in the mood for a depraved, evil film, spent your 90 minutes watching the Void

My thoughts when I saw it:

i think when they enter the portal to hell (aka the basement), shite gets real

i'm not going to say that the story/plot were perfectly crafted or anything, but i graded the movie on a scale b/c of (1) genre and (2) budget. i can give a pass on intricately crafted motivations and developed characters if we get to hell and hell is cool

I may check this out, but I hope it is better than Baskin. That movie was pretty terrible.

if you didn't like Baskin, you probably won't like this

it's a lot more linear but it's kind of the same movie

watched Baskin last week and watched the Void last night

I enjoyed both in the context that they're both lower budget and pretty ambitious. And I really enjoy body horror/lovecraft/going to hell type films.

Each definitely has some weak points but both itch a scratch that doesn't seem to be paid attention to by most horror filmmakers.

I think the reason these movies(and hellraiser, event horizon) just do it for me is most of my nightmares seem to be very similar to the scenes in this movie.

Watched this last week per your recommendation.

I enjoyed it quite a bit for what it is. Major Cthulu vibes going on which was ok by me as I generally enjoy those films. Not sure it's "scary," but it is interesting.

I enjoyed this movie. It had a Hellraiser kind of vibe to it. It was nice to see practical effects again too.

why Hellraiser 2 is always ranked WAY higher to me than Hellraiser 1

I'm kinda surprised you liked Baskin.

What are y'all's thoughts on As Above, So Below. I actually really liked that one. Thought it was pretty well-done.

That sucks since I have now sort of spoiled it for you accidentally.

It's the one about the catacombs in Paris.

I'm not sure. I feel like there is a chance it would be on NF or HBOgo though. If not, if you come to BR soon I can let you borrow it.

'As Above, So Below' was entertaining to me at least, especially since my expectations were low going in.

May have to check this movie out.

ETA: I'm seeing a 'Void' that was made in 2017 on Amazon, but not one made in 2016. Can you put a link?
