When JJ Watt retires in a year, he will be the next Hollywood star. Book it.

And I won't watch one movie he's in.

He has a few upcoming roles that should be very interesting...

Black Adam in Shazam! should be good

He's also in the Rampage adaptation and Fighting With My Family

The thing is, like Arnold, he's a bit limited due to his size. He can't play a lot of a believable dramatic roles because he's a mountain of a man. Maybe there are some out there.

If anything he needs to take on more action roles. He's phenomenal in those.

You underestimate the power of pro wrestling fans. I remember when TIME had an online poll for their Man of the Year back around the turn of the century, and Mick Foley won in a landslide. That was the last time TIME made that mistake.

The Rock would've been a great casting choice to play OJ in that American Crime Story miniseries, IMO.

I get that it was supposed to focus more on the other characters anyway, but I think it would've added another interesting dynamic to an already fantastic show.

He is a likable dude, no doubt.

Mostly, he is a giant man who is able to not take himself seriously.

He looks like a meathead, but he is down to Earth.

Who the frick does not LOVE THE ROCK?

Watch him on SNL before he became a movie star. He can act, and is probably good at taking direction.

He is a good actor with a great work ethic. I think he's at his best in comedies.

Why is Adam Sandler a bigger star and worth more money than:

Al Pacino
Matt Damon
Leonardo DiCaprio
Christian Bale
Robert De Niro
Robert Downey Jr.
Brad Pitt
etc., etc., etc....

In fact Sandler is not only wealthier / worth more than just about any two combined of Hollywood's best from the list above, his net worth is greater than any five actors combined from the majority of all Academy Award / Oscar winners. Why??? Like you say, he also makes garbage... and that is what sells BIG!! Unfortunately, skill, talent, great acting, great scripts, great movies, never have and never will have anything to do with what is most "popular".

Sandler is not a bigger "star" than those people

And he's worth more money because he produces his own movies, he doesn't just collect a check for acting

I can blow up that argument in two words: The Rundown.

Are you seriously confusing Dwayne Johnson with Vin Diesel?

Vin Diesel = Richard Riddick.

The crazy thing, when looking at his filmography, is that it's like he can't say no to a role. He's been in like 40 movies and most are complete trash. Tooth fairy, witch mountain? Wtf.

He came from nothing and has made himself a massive star. He's not a thespian acting for the love of the performance or to become an all time DDL type actor. He does everything for his brand, to have fun and to make money. I don't mean that in a negative way either, but I don't think you'll see him crying about not having an oscar

He's got a really good mix of traits- that big superman-type build that works for action (see Stallone, Schwarzenegger), but comes across with a relaxed and easy-going type of personality that you usually don't see in action (best comparison would be Tom Selleck and Bruce Willis).

Most guys that big don't have his charm, they're wooden and maybe a bit intimidating.
quote:

all the big action stars of the 80s and 90s at least had 1 or 2 movies to really hang their hat on i.e. terminator, rocky/rambo, die hard
I'd say Scorpion King was his breakout role. Might not have made the money some of those did, but it established that he could carry a movie and make it fun.

He doesn't have better roles because he's so big (and thus tied into a stereotype), but I think he could pull off some comedy that doesn't require him to be huge.
