created by Sam Peckinpah, although he was robbed of credit
Maybe Sam's lingering influence is why McCain seems so much more belligerent and angry than other TV heroes of the period

Chuck Connors would kick Chuck Norris' arse.

Set universal records for use of the word "paw" when not referring to the foot of an animal.

Connors was married three times. He met his first wife, Elizabeth Jane Riddell Connors, at one of his baseball games, and married her on October 1, 1948. They had four sons, Michael (born 1950), Jeffrey (born 1952), Steven (born 1953), Kevin (1956–2005), and divorced in 1961. Connors married Kamala Devi (1963), the year after co-starring with him in Geronimo. She also played with Connors in Branded, Broken Sabre, and Cowboy in Africa. They were divorced in 1973. Connors played in Soylent Green (1973), as Tab Fielding, and Faith Quabius played an attendant. The were married in 1977 and divorced in 1979.[11]
quote:
Connors died on November 10, 1992 in Los Angeles at the age of 71, of pneumonia stemming from lung cancer. At the time of his death, his companion was Rose Mary Grumley.
Per Wiki (the website, not the man)
I loved the show. I catch it on MeTV sometimes and still respect the grittiness of it. It's one of those shows I can't stop watching until it's over.
