So, I couldn't find anything on the other night, and decided to watch "The Other Guys" on Encore.

I really didn't know much about the movie, didn't remember ever seeing a commercial about it. When Samuel L. and The Rock decide to catch the thieves by taking the short cut to the bushes. (trying to be vague here to not give away the only surprise in the film).

So, anyway -- the shortcut to the bushes sucked me into watching the rest of the movie. It is so horribly good. Plenty of one-liners and over-acted comedy drama. I'm ashamed that I enjoyed it. Well, sort of.

Anyone else have a recent movie that kind of fits into that category?

I hated it the first time, but after giving it a second go I found it to be pretty funny.

Great movie. Better the 2nd time. The jump was awesome. The lineabout the soupkitchen, and the bar scene killed. I loved it

Dirty Mike and the Boys had me cracking up. This movie and 21 Jumpstreet were two movies that I thought were just going to be ok and ended up being great.

Yeah, I woke my wife up because I was laughing out loud at that. She asked me what I was laughing at - so I told her. All I got in return is, 'you're dumb'.

Like other people in this thread, I find it funnier every time I watch it. Its weird because I didn't notice a lot of stuff the first time I saw it.

People left the theater saying it was cheesy, but I enjoyed it. I mean, it has Will Ferrell in it, and it was a major studio release. Why would you expect anything else?

The Samuel L. Jackson and Rock's jump is one of those scenes that make me laugh every damn time. Glorious.

I didn't like it that much. It was just okay. But I'm really not a huge Mark Wahlberg fan though, and Farrell is kinda stale at this point.

It had a few laughs in it, but overall I wasn't a fan. Although if the mood ever strikes me, I may give it another shot since most are saying it gets better upon re-viewings.

I thought it was funny but I had pretty low expectations. I think it was great because it was ok with being horribly good, if that makes sense.

I also was not a huge fan of it. I posted this last year after watching it:

quote:

While we have had the discussion of seeing comedies as they are, I will say that it did make me laugh a few times. It had some great one-liners. However this movie has a huge problem that most comedies don't - it felt extremely disjointed. No flow at all. Also the plot was way too convaluted (sp?) for a comedy. I was starting to lose interest in the middle of the movie which seemed to drag and have no place at all in the rest of the film, so when they all of the sudden realized that the whole scheme was to rip off the police pension, I was like "How did they get there?" Then the credits which showed the ponzi scheme and inflated CEO stats was just also not fitting for a comedy. Seems like something you would see at the end of Wall Street 3 and not a Will Ferrell movie.
