Since this cleaned up last night at the Golden Globes, i was thinking of knocking out the 6 episodes.

Any comments on it? What would you compare it to?

It's Le Carre, so it's a slow burn. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is another Le Carre, so if you liked that, you may like the Night Manager.

I would add, that I thought it was fantastic. Really well done.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

I was bored as shite through this one.

I really liked Night Manager, but I didn't think that it would be cleaning up awards shows or anything. Two great leads, a good supporting cast, and well shot. But it semi-often felt like super generic spy-thriller fare that you've seen a million times before. Good, not great.

pretty much this. you couldn't ask for better acting. The plot had huge holes in it, and the pacing was really off.

Disagree on this. I consume pretty much any and all espionage books and movies available, and it didn't seem run of the mill to me. I agree it wasn't mind blowing, but generic wouldn't be how I'd describe it.

I'm enthusiastic about The Night Manager, but that is partially because you just don't get very much smart material in the genre anymore, and that's a shame because I think it often does well.

Should have a couple good forthcoming movies in the next couple years, however (Red Sparrow films and I am Pilgrim).

The Berlin Trilogy, The Charm School, Brotherhood Of The Rose would all be good too.

Agreed, particularly on The Charm School. Didn't they do some shitty version of it at some point? It could be an outstanding movie/mini series.

On a related note, while not true espionage, I really hope someone will tackle Power of the Dog and The Cartel one day. It's so dense you could probably do a 3 season TV series.

I watched episode one today.

Meh.

I'll finish because it's just six episodes but so far it hasn't grabbed me.

Just binged it. It was entirely enjoyable. Seems like basically just an audition for the Bond role by Hiddlestone.

Good show, the blonde's 6' long legs are icing on the cake.

I'm always looking for new TV shows and I came across this show a couple months ago before it had the buzz it has now. I found it very entertaining and was surprised by how much I got caught up in the story with it only being 6 episodes. The main 2 characters (Tom Hiddleston & Hugh Laurie) are outstanding in this show and give the show gravity and depth; which again is hard to achieve in a mini-series.

I don't particularly gravitate towards many Espionage shows because they typically seem a dime a dozen to me, but I would and have recommmended this show to friends.
- Overall I'd give it a 8/10 ????
