Exorcist 3 was the better of the two Exorcist movies

The Exorcist III was a great movie. Very underrated. Plus it contains one of the most scariest jump scenes ever.

But let's not get crazy here. The original shocked the world. Literally. People were running out of theaters and puking in the aisles. Ambulances were being called for people fainting. That shite just doesn't happen everyday.

When it was re-released in the 90's I had to go see it. And when Regan walked down the stairs on all fours and upside down with blood dripping from her lips, the strapping gentlemen in the row below my wife and I got up and told his girlfriend to that he was going to wait in the car. She and friends can call him when it was over. As he walked away I heard him say "I don't know why white people gotta make movies like this." TSB

The Exorcist doesn't hold up as well for me, as the actual exorcism is the weakest part of this genre for me. I find the rite tedious to watch, with the demon hurling insults and the priests shouting louder and louder like Demi Moore in "A Few Good Men" following up her denied "I object" with "I strenuously object!" The series fell into that trap, too.

I'd also rank "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" over "The Exorcist".

The worst thing my mother ever did to me was rent this movie on VHS when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I think I saw about 30 minutes of it and it ruined me. I couldn't be alone for 10 seconds without thinking the devil was coming for me. And yes, I did throw up that night. I also threw up after watching the Thriller video for the first time.

Even into my 20s, the only way a movie could legit scare me (not counting some quick and loud shock effect) was if it had something to do with satan or demonic possession.

I'm now in my 40s and I'm over it. If only I could go into the ocean sober I think I will have conquered all my phobias. Which reminds me of the second worst thing my mom did when we watched Jaws...

All of this.

I think I watched it for the first time when I was 10. I swear to this day I woke up later that night to my bed shaking.

Im in my 40's now as well and I occasionally have experiences of sleep paralysis which I believe stem from this movie.
