The Daily Show correspondent Trevor Noah is now considered to be "the most likely candidate" to take over for Jon Stewart as host of the Comedy Central satirical news show.

Deadline reports that they received the tip from a source, but Comedy Central would only respond with, “We are not commenting or providing guidance on any speculation about any individuals.”

Noah toured native South Africa, UK and US as a standup comedian before joining The Daily Show  in December 2014 as a contributor. According to his website, Noah was the first South African comedian to appear on both The Tonight Show and the Late Show with David Letterman.

Stewart announced last month that he would be leaving The Daily Show after 15 years as host. A slew of potential replacements have been suggested, including Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, former Daily Show correspondents Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, as well as current correspondent Jessica Williams. Stewart took over from Craig Kilborn in 1999, and led the series to two Peabody awards and 18 Emmys.

Win-win for liberal america.

If the show thrives, they keep their talking point outreach program

If it fails, it's whitey's fault for not watching the colored fella.

Could've been a lot worse

Did they even try to contact Craig Kilborn?

Adding one of the three biggest comedians in the world would've been a lot worse?

Pohler would've fricking killed. Louis CK is too funny to fail, even if that's not his niche. Schumer would be a tough fit, but she's so funny that I'm sure she'd figure it out quickly enough.

Schumer...terrible

Louis Ck is awesome but that is not his format. The show would need a massive reworking

Pohler is the only one that I could see and she's a pipe dream obviously. Even still she tends to be the most annoying person in the room after too long

If this is true, then I'm really happy they didn't get any of these people. CK would have been funny, but a little too depressed/nihilistic for the show's light-hearted feel. Poehler and/or Schumer would have been unwatchable, imo.

Trevor is a great pick that I would not have guessed. Oliver, obviously, can't do it now because of his new show on HBO. Colbert is getting the Late Show. Cordry and Carrel are doing movies. I would have liked to see Dennis Miller or Craig Ferguson, but I can understand them wanting to go in a younger direction.

Schumer is brilliant.

And Stewart wasn't tailored for that format, either, and I'd say he did ok.

I can't help but think someone like Colin Quinn would have been great

no big name was likely going to step into a show they couldn't really make their own anyway.

Yeah that's what they keep trying to tell me but I don't see it

Dick jokes only get you to the Dane cook level of comedy. Brilliant, not so much

Inside Amy is really, really good. Her standup is hysterical.

But no two people like the same comedians, so I'll never argue with anyone over their comedic preferences. But I definitely drink the Schumer Kool Aid.
