I've been watching the marathon today and while it's really interesting, it can be really tedious at times too. Apparently the new season starts tonight.

So do these guys actually find anything of note?

If they truly find anything of note you will hear about it in the news long before it hits the show. It is pretty interesting though.

I've been watching as well. Gotta' keep it drama'd up for TV, but the history of the Island is very interesting. I'll probably stay tuned.

No. The most solid "find" is an old Spanish coin they discover with a metal detector. I say "find" because I don't trust that the producers didn't plant it. Everything else they do on a larger scale is pretty much a waste and any "discoveries" they claim are pure conjecture based on natural features.

During the middle of the second season there's a TON of filler. First there's an entire episode dedicated to a con man who comes to the island, then they take two episodes to explore various theories on a trip to Europe.

And I don't say that as a hater of the concept, either. I've been into Oak Island since I was a little kid.

Thanks for the heads-up that the new season starts tonight! I didn't know that. I'll be watching. I'm an addict, even though I don't expect anything out of it.

Whether they discover anything or not, some cool history to learn. And Dustin Hoffman is on it.

I've been watching all day. The sonar pics made it real and not just some ghost story for me.

Makes me want to run out and get a metal detector.

I remember first hearing about this Unsolved Mysteries, and have always been interested. The show is interesting, but can get pretty slow at times.

Intriguing as hell... Lots of filler though.

I feel like they could really condense the show. Some of the filler is interesting like their trip to Europe but some of it I could do without.

Show is nothing but filler. It's just a boring reality tv concept. I don't think these guys are even really looking for anything. Like the segment where they've dig a random hole with a dinky back hoe, find dirt and move on to the next random search. Idiotic crap.

Awesome shite. There aren't many shows I can't wait for other than LSU games.

I actually look forward to this one. TV really isn't my thing but I love this for some of reason

I like watching it you do get some history with this show but that's what it is a reality show.

With today's technological advances and machinery there is no way that they could find out or excavate whatever is down in the money pit or 10X.

Agree, they keep jumping back and forth. I guess if they concentrated on one spot, there wouldn't be enough for a TV show with all the waiting in between making things happen.

I don't understand why they don't start digging at the money pit. Make the original hole wider and reinforce it as you move down.

I also wonder about the actual chronology. We see seasons change but how many years have actually gone by? As many in the show as in real life? It seems like they could have filmed everything we've seen so far in one year and just chopped it up and parceled it out to have enough to make a several seasons of a show - see the example of the back hoe arriving, doing basically nothing, and disappearing again. They clearly stop and then abandon story lines mid-stream. They might've done other stuff with it that we just haven't been shown yet.

Other than the need to make a show, I don't either.

Draining the swamp *multiple times*, going to Europe, inviting several different quacks out to explore their crackpot theories - that all has to be a diversion to have enough material for a show.

Because any rational person (well semi-rational - this is a treasure hunt for adults after all) would have just focused on re-digging out the money pit.

There have been a ton of books, documentaries, etc. about Oak Island. This show is just the latest take based on the myths and earlier scam artists . No one really wants to prove anything, just keep pecking around and making money off of the legend.

Each episode involves a new piece of rented equipment too small to accomplish the task, several meetings at the table to let the brothers take turns with their schtick, and a vague reference to another historical treasure that just might be buried at Oak Island.

If they shortened every episode to one half the time, it might be worth watching occasionally just to see how they play the formula this week.

It reminds me of a dramatic version of another island show with ridiculous close calls and far-fetched scenarios week after week, but Gilligan was more likable than these guys.

The concept of the show is cool, until they have to go and reality it up for tv.
As someone else stated, just go dig the frick up the money pit and be done with it.
And where did the legends come from? Where did they find out that 7 people would die before the mystery is revealed? Someone just put a bullet in someone else so we can find out all the mysteries please.
