Just watched this again, what a great movie. Of course it seems anything with Cazale in it was ridiculous and I am a sucker for the 70’s genre. Just wanted to throw it out there.

You could say John Cazale has a 1.000 batting average of starring in good movies. The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter, and The Godfather Part 1 and 2. Throw in being married/dated Meryl Streep and dude had it going. He sadly died way way way too early.

Great movie, one of Hackman's best. Check out Blow-Up (1966) and Blow Out (1981) if you haven't seen them.
ETA: Coppola cited Blow-Up as his influence for The Conversation. Same with De Palma's Blow Out.

I have seen them brother and you know of what you speak. Still cannot believe Cazale’s list.

Keep in mind that this film was produced during the Watergate hearings. Recorded conversations were a national hotpoint at the time. It added to the paranoia aspect of the story.

I always wondered, who was Duvall in this movie? Who did he work for? CIA, Mafia? Hus character I thought really laid the groundwork for film like Fincher's "The Game" and others.
