No love for this movie on here? I searched and found just one thread with a handful of responses.

This is a really really good movie, especially considering it's a rom-com. It's freaking hilarious, really heart felt, and it avoids getting bogged down in social issues or trying to send a political message which I was concerned about.

It's just a really well done funny movie, with a great story

Just imagine if the girl was black and the guy (and his family) was white, and reacted the same way?

Doubt it would be the rom-com of the year.

First of all that isn't the story, and it wouldn't make since if it was unless you're saying the story takes place in a predominately black country?

Second of all the movie didn't paint his family in a positive light at all and actually made his parents seem pretty racist/ignorant of other cultures

Third of all one of the key moments of the film is when he berates his parents for refusing to assimilate to the culture of the country they live in, he makes them look pretty ignorant

So basically what you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone reading this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Haven't seen this yet but I've heard excellent things about it.

How does it compare to another atypical rom-com like "500 Days of Summer?"

Exactly, this isn't PC garbage but a story that actually happened and portrays them as heavily flawed people. Sure Kumail has some nostalgia for Pakistan where he grew up, but the movie is incredibly decisive that American culture is superior and immigrants should and are actually obligated to assimilate to the culture.

Kumail from where he came from embodies the American dream. Good for him and a great from rags to riches story of embracing American ideals. Best rom com in years.

On the top of my head, I would say it's the best romantic comedy since 500 Days of Summer, but it's very different. It was based on the real life of Kumail who personally stars in it. It's more about a culture clash and I'd say has far more awkward comedy than 500 Days, and 500 Days is much more cynical than this is.

You can also immediately tell it's by Judd Apatow, so if you've seen his good movies, then you got a good idea what you're in for.

Thought it was too long but overall pretty solid. Worth a rental.

and I love how the resolution doesn't just lazily show his parents just completely accepting it and being all happy and everything.

They give an inch but that's it

I really liked that movie and I hate romantic comedies. It's just a really good date movie.

Just saw this movie and LOVED IT!

The part where the girl is sneaking out in the middle of the night and he's pestering her with questions and finally she's screams "I HAVE TO TAKE A MASSIVE shite" had me rolling.

Ray Romano stole the show.

The 9/11 joke had me rolling. Not too soon.

Yeah, best 9/11 joke since Gilbert Gottfried a week after 9/11 at the Roast of Hugh Hefner in New York saying that he was nervous about flying home since his flight had a connection with the Empire State Building, and then told the funniest joke of all time in the Aristocrats: LINK
