I've always heard this show is funny, but I've never watched it. I was considering starting from episode 1, but God Lord there's like 11 seasons. It's a major time commitment...is it worth it?

There's a reason there are 11 seasons.

One of the best comedic shows in the last 10 years. It doesn't really have much of plot you need to get invested in and each episode pretty much stands alone, so you don't really need to binge watch it. You can just watch a few episodes here and there.

Note that the first season is pretty good but the show takes a huge leap in quality when Danny Devito joins the cast.

YouTube the "Dennis system"

This was one of many many funny moments in the show.

If you do not think this is funny then move along. Do not waste your time.

Also if any of you guys haven't seen the outtakes, I strongly recommend those. This is obviously not for the OP, spoilers abound.

If I could go back in time and relive "Wildcard, BITCHES!!!!" one more time for the first time, I would right now.

Go for it OP.

This may be a stupid question to ask in a thread that will attract Sunny fans, but if you had to choose between starting

Sunny
The Office
Archer

Which would you choose?

I have watched either all of those or 80% (archer) and Always Sunny is IMO the funniest of the 3.

-The Office is the best written / nuanced
-Archer has the best one liners / smash you over the head comedy
-Always Sunny has the best funny ideas

I love all 3 and the answer is clearly The Office.

Before Michael Scott leaves the show, it is top 5 funniest show of all time IMO. Really hits the stride in season 2.

I would rank:

The Office

Always Sunny

Archer (really gone downhill the last couple of seasons, esp this year)

I would say yes to watching at least from one of the early seasons. The Gang references topics from past episodes a good bit and there are running gags which you may not understand if you skip over a lot of episodes. Starting from the early years also allows you to watch the marvelous transformation of Mac! How that guy gained and lost weight in such a short amount of time is incredible.

All good shows, it'd be a close one between Archer and Always Sunny. It's easier to jump into a random episode of those two shows and still find it funny. The Office is a bit of a time investment, but is still hilarious

Pretty much this. Starting from scratch is a good idea. There are running gags that persist throughout the seasons, but no real storyline.

Once Danny Devito figures out Frank, it is absolute gold.

The supporting characters are great also. The McPoyles are just fantastic.

Sunny with the Office being a very close second. Both great shows in their own way. Archer is funny but not in the same league

I'd just watch each season sequentially, not necessarily every episode in order. I say this because there are motifs of each character you start to pick up on, though there's no real character development. These are horrible people who's lives revolve around getting drunk, getting high and scheming against each other and society. Undoubtedly my favorite show for the last 7-8 years. I used to have a Netflix subscription for the sole purpose of watching Always Sunny episodes over and over again.
