That's because SS is not being shown in China. It would finish at about 800 million with China.

Guardians of the Galaxy did about 90 million in China.

I highly doubt Suicide Squad was going to do better than that.

#SuicideSquad intl gross climbs to sturdy $353.1M lifting global gross to $636M. Big $730M final possible w/ no China release.

Like I said, with China it would've done over 800 million. It's having very good legs overseas.

I agree. The fact is, if this thing does $730 million and people still say it's breaking even or unsuccessful, I would love to see their reasoning behind it. So many movies that have cost $200 million dollars have done less and been called hits. It's insane.

You know, it's funny, I didn't even like SS that much. I think it's not even close to the level of quality DC needs to do in their future movies. It's just astonishing to me that people are saying their movies are barely breaking even, though. There's literally no logic that points to that assumption. This is the third movie in their universe, it was not very good, it got shite reviews, and it still will push $700 million with no China release. The potential with DC films is ridiculously huge.

Exactly, just imagine the numbers a well received SS and BvS could've done? There's high demand for these films, let's just hope they can right the ship because I was let down by both SS and BvS.

Mark Hughes is losing it on Twitter.
quote:

Mark Hughes ?@markhughesfilms 11m11 minutes ago #SuicideSquad added $60M globally past 7 days, raising total to $636M. If it falls 50% each week it adds $30M --> $15M --> $7M --> $3M etc.

Mark Hughes ?@markhughesfilms 2m2 minutes ago Without Japan, it does well enough that it simply looks foolish & disingenuous to continue pretending it's doing poorly or unsuccessful.
quote:

Mark Hughes ?@markhughesfilms 1m1 minute ago And the press is starting to realize that now, & are shifting gears to change the narrative & stop denying it. Others should, too.
quote:

Mark Hughes ?@markhughesfilms 8m8 minutes ago So, without Japan #SuicideSquad will take b/w $675M and $695M. Japan should add b/w $10-20M. This is MATH, so it's silly to deny it.
quote:

Mark Hughes ?@markhughesfilms 6m6 minutes ago This all means #SuicideSquad will end its run with a total of b/w about $685M to $715M, high-end to low-end estimate. Again, it's math.

I fricking hated the movie but I'm actually glad it's doing well. It gives DC a chance to redeem itself in the future.

Suicide Squad just passed Iron Man 2 in domestic revenue. It's about to pass Iron Man. It will end up below Batman V Superman and Guardians as the #13 superhero movie domestic gross of all time.

It's over $730 Mill worldwide right now.

It's had very impressive legs the past few weekends. It should finish at about $750-760 million. Very impressive considering it didn't even show in China.

It had that fairly big dropoff after the first week, but after a couple of weeks the weekends just dropped 20 to 40% each week. For Labor Day weekend it actually had an increase.

He probably isn't far off. Production budget was estimated at $175 million. P&A was probably another $100 million. With taxes, back end participation to above the line players, and the theaters box office share... 600 million is probably not a very good profit.

it may not be a world breaker in regards to profit, but it is still a profit - it's not like we are talking John Carter of Mars here.

It's finishing up a very good run. If you factor in the terrible reviews and limited screens overseas, it's finishing up a great run.

agreed. what kills me is people on here make this film out to seem like the 2nd coming of Battlefield Earth or Gigli. is it a perfect film, god no. was it the worst movie ever, far from it.

I paid my admission and loved it - worth every penny for me. some of you guys just WAY over analyze movies - sometimes you just have to check reality at the door and just enjoy the film for what it is - i mean we do that for Michael Bay films already LOL>

Maybe now that DC has dodged the box office bullet from BvS and SS, they can settle the frick down and try to make good movies.

Disclaimer: I didn't watch "Batman vs Superman," and found "Suicide Squad" very badly written, so I'm not really in their corner, but I think it's entirely legitimate to ask whether that's actually a good thing. Studios tend to keep going with things that make them money. If those two movies made them money, they're motivated to keep making movies of the same type and quality.

Even with reality left at home 7 miles away, that movie still sucked.
