You HAVE to have patience early on. It starts off slow, but stick with it.

I watched the first episode and agreed it was slow. I need to keep going as well.

I literally just watched the first episode last night. I had seen a couple random episodes in the past and heard good things.

Do you have ADD?

Seriously though, a lot of people find it sort of slow at times. But slow doesn't mean it's not good. I'm not sure what you are expecting from it, but if you're looking for nonstop action, then you won't find it with TW. It's very realistic and strongly character-driven.

All I can say is that if you are a good 5/6 episodes in and you don't like it, then it may not be for you. However, if you do like it then stick with it...you will be glad you did, and in the end it will rank near the top of shows you've ever seen most likely.

I'll definitely stick it out for the first season just based purely on the rumors on how good this series is. After that I'll make a judgment call.

After you get sucked in by the first season, don't get discouraged when the second season seems like a very different show. It all comes together eventually. It does start a bit slow, but it will draw you in to the point where you can't wait til the next day to watch the next episode. Both The Wire and The Sopranos are kind of slow, but The Wire is worth it. I have no idea how people can put Sopranos in the same league as The Wire.

The Wire is the greatest literary work of the 21st century. Anyone that can't sit through an episode or finish the series is probably someone that doesn't read a lot of books.

honestly, somebody can probably make a decent argument that the wire is one of the greatest works of art in history.

TV has changed so much since The Wire first aired in 2002.

I've noticed a lot people today watching shows like The Wire and The Sopranos for the first time can't even finish the 1st season.

People now must have major "omgz moments", plot twists, action, sex, etc. in every episode. That's not what these shows are about. It's way more deep than that.
