Not really a movie board topic but there isn't a book board so I figured I'd ask here. If I wanted to start reading some of the books/graphic novels out there on Star Wars...Where would I start? I've always loved the movies but recently decided I'd give the books a try.

Start with Thrawn Trilogy. The first one is Heir to the Empire.

All Star Wars books, short stories, etc. in in-universe chronological order.

Star Wars books in in-universe chronological order.

About 3 months ago I started at the very beginning and have been working my way down the list.

Skipping a lot of Star Wars history by starting here.

Just remember that Disney is ignoring the books when it comes to the new movies.

These are supposed to read like episode 7, 8 and 9. So if you have no knowledge of Star Wars other than the movies, it's the most logical starting point. They are great books too and it's a damn shame that Disney decided to shite all over established canon.

I've really liked what I've read from the new books so far. I heard the latest isn't good (aftermath, but that might be because of political stuff) but I've read most of A New Dawn and I finished Tarkin yesterday and it was fantastic. Have lords of the sith for my next trip.

Dawn and Tarkin do a great job in establishing how evil the empire really was (we never really see it in the films) and a lot of the time is spent on how the empire is actually run.

Also, a must read is Shadows of the Empire. It's the story of what happens in-between Empire and RotJ.

The thaws books were good but I don't remember much because I was little when I read them. Also, the Jedi Academy trilogy s is good.

The X-Wing series is a really fun read. nine books in all, it follows Wedge Antilles as he reforms Rogue Squadron and then moves on to Wraith Squadron. It deals a lot with Yssane Isard and the Lusankya and then Grand Admiral / Warlord Zsinj. We get to see the conquer Coruscant and form the New Republic

I've read through the series four or five times over the last decade, I enjoy them immensely.

How does one go about getting to right a book for Star Wars? I see multiple writers and I was just curious.

No clue, but you're out of the running.

jk

I've wondered the same thing. I'm guessing someone at Disney has to approve your storyline.
