Ralph won’t be the only McQuarrie associated with Star Wars. While Lucasfilm continues the trek to get the Gareth Edwards-helmed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to the big screen later this year, a report has surfaced confirming that Christopher McQuarrie (no relation to award-winning illustrator) the unofficial Hollywood script doctor, has come aboard to “save” the project.

“Save” is a direct quote from a source to Birth. Movies. Death. According to the site, McQuarrie has been quietly brought in to fix the script for Rogue One, a heist film about a group of rebels working to steal plans for the Death Star. Gary Whitta was originally on script duties, but he soon departed the standalone film and moved on to Starlight, adapted from Mark Millar’s comic. Chris Weitz then came on, later remarking how “there’s a very strong structure from Gary’s work and that’s a huge advantage to me.”

However, Birth. Movies. Death. further states that the script still wasn’t in the right place after these change of hands. McQuarrie, will likely remain out of the film’s credits even though he’s said to be tightening up the story. This news comes a few months after Latino Review’s report from last October which claimed McQuarrie’s involvement extended over the course of two weeks.

In addition to recently writing and directing Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation with major success, McQuarrie also had a hand in Doug Liman’s summer blockbuster hit Edge of Tomorrow and he’s moving on to helm M:I 6. This Rogue One business wouldn’t be the first time he had to rework a script, either, as he previously helped save the tumultuous World War Z.

The original ending had Brad Pitt going to Russia to save his wife from being a sex slave.

If that was saving WWZ, then it must have been Nick Cage straight to DVD bad before the rewrite.

The script could be complete shite and this movie will still make close to a billion dollars.

I'm not a movie industry guy, but with a 2016 release date, shouldn't the filming be wrapped by now?

That may be true, but it could kill future anthology projects.

I am. And yes it should. But it's possible his rewrites could be used in reshoots. I worked on a film that did a couple weeks of reshoots three months before the movie came out.

I suspect that during editing they saw the problems. They may only reshoot a handful of scenes. The other option would be to push back the release date.

The movie takes place a few years before ANH. So no Poe.

Ding, ding, ding
Episode VIII will be out in summer 2017. The young Han Solo movie will be out in 2018. Episode IX will come out in 2019.
Those movies are going to happen, probably if this is even Fantastic Four bad...

The entire third act was re-tooled and re-shot. Everyone was sure it was going to be a critical and commercial failure. It wasn't.

It made over $202 million in the U.S. and was popular among fans and even received a semi-warm reception from critics.

I just read something that said McQuarrie got brought in right as principal photography started....this makes it sound like a last minute punch-up. That sort of shite happens all the time. Big time screenwriters come in to improve dialogue or character stuff, or make the action scenes pop.

I'm sorry. I don't believe the sources. Could they have hired a writer to help with the reshoot a, sure.

As a fan, I can categorically say that I hate WWZ.

Also, I saw something that earlier today that dealt with 7 rumors for The Force Awakens that were untrue. I'll try to find the link again and edit it in.

The noteworthy thing is that the two sites (or two of the sites) that lambasted were Latino Review and the precursor site to BirthMoviesDeath.com.

Anything with the Star Wars name attached will print money. It would take 3 or 4 complete bombs, I mean sub $100 million gross, to kill any future anthology projects. I don't see the public getting tired of Star Wars any time soon.

This Disney era of Star Wars might make a lot of money but the product will be pure crap. Ep VII was a copy of IV and V with some terrible actors.
