Its rather long, but I found this to be a very informative and fascinating read. This has never been revealed to me, besides certain obvious themes. Go to the link and read it and let me know what you think.

How George Lucas used an ancient technique called “ring composition” to reach a level of storytelling sophistication in his six-part saga that is unprecedented in cinema history.

I stopped right there. I refuse to buy into that shite.

Well, the evidence is more than substantial. He did use this system. And lucas himself said he used it. If you actually read the whole thing you will see.

No shot of that being true.

Did you read the first page and first page only lol? Its not that hard to believe. Its a classic way of story telling that humans have used for ages. Except it has never been done in a movie before, until he did it. It's 9 pages long, and litterally shows you everything you need to know.

I refuse to believe someone intelligent enough to implement that form of story telling into a movie can completely botch the prequels.

I don't think the prequels are that greatt, but I don't they are as bad as everyone says. I'm just going to be clear. Not a single one of you have read all 9 pages. I know because I did and it would take way longer than your timing of posting. It is very precise, and shows you with pictures and lines from the movie down to the Minutes.

At least read it then say you disagree and give reasons as to why. Don't be lazy and hard headed just because you dislike the prequels.

No thanks. I'm too busy dicking around on the OT to read 9 pages of something I don't care about.

I read the whole thing and it's a bunch of bullshite.

Reusing familiar plot elements and themes isn't part of some super transcendent ring technique. Nine pages of non stop confirmation bias IMO.

Not only this, but it's one thing to copy the skeleton, support beams, etc of a beautiful building. It's another to then cover it with shite paint choices and builder grade finishes.

bored at work and took the time to read the full 9 pages.

I do not believe that all of those events could happen by coincidence. I think those situations were done strategically to do this.

I think i remember another big Ring theory series was Harry Potter. Alot of situations that fit together like that between books 1-7,2-6,3-5,4.

Very awesome when this gets pulled off

It might be a brilliant theory on storytelling. I don't know. Because reading that article itself was as boring as watching paint dry. I read all kinds of dense stuff all the time and I could not force my way through two pages of that stuff.

Starving artist syndrome maybe?

Like musicians, you try to make a name for yourself, you struggle, you care, it's the only thing you have.... then you hit it big and your music sucks after, because you are too happy. There's no rock bottom, there's no "this has to work, this has to be perfect, Otherwise I'll never be given another chance!".

So Lucas probably followed a certain direction to help insure success before, then after, his ego winged it. "I got this, special effects and cool saber fights is what the fans want, and the kids love goofy characters"

Is it completely possible, even probable, Lucas designed the films using ring composition? Absolutely. The writer does a great job highlighting a significant amount of proof. And I saw a lot of that, in regards to plot at least, from my viewings of Star Wars. It was clear the prequels were far bigger than just another trilogy of movies, they made Star Wars a much deeper and more intricate story. I appreciate them for the depth of plot and symbolism they offer

However, no amount of plot can take away from some of the basic things he missed in making those movies. It's hard for me to get over the crappy dialogue and extensive CGI in those films. I still like them, but I don't love menace and clones the way I love the OT. I will say Sith was much better than given credit for

How is that different than what Disney just did?

I read this about a week ago. Sounds like he had it in mind when making the OT, and then used it again to structure the 6 parts as a whole. Which is fine, but I wish he would have turned the reins over on the script itself.

I'm more impressed with the chiasmus of ESB and how it's an almost perfectly symmetrical movie.
