I wonder how much time I am going to spend watching those on TV this week despite the fact that I own all of them on blu ray

I remember when Spike would do Star Wars marathons every weekend for about a year straight. That got old in a hurry.

I'm rewatching Phantom Menace right now. As an 11 year old kid, I loved this movie. Saw it 5 times in theaters and wore the copy I had at home out. Darth Maul and QuiGon were awesome. Watching it now, same thoughts. QuiGon, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, Darth Maul are all awesome. But fricking JarJar Binks is horrible. All of the Gungans are. So is the kids acting, a bunch of the dialogue, the fricking midichlorian bullshite. All sucks. And the fricking CGI. Dude, Lucas, relax on the CGI.

QuiGon and Darth Maul are awesome though. These movies had so much great potential wasted.

I was also 11 when Phantom Menace came out, and I thought it was the shite. Rewatching it now as a 28 year old, and it really is a stinking pile of shite. Lucas went nuts with the CGI. God, am I so happy to know the new movies are putting a huge emphasis on practical effects. And I won't even get started on Jar Jar. The music still stands the test of time. Absolutely love the prequel stuff, especially after years of hearing it on N64 games.

Overall, I completely agree with Breesus.

I was already grown when Ep 1 came out, and initially loved it for the reasons Breesus listed. But it's like candy- delicious at first, then you get sick from it.

Absolute shame- the potential was right there. Even the story wasn't bad, it was the pre-adolescent direction it went.
Still makes no sense; as a child in the 70's, I remember all us kids loving sci-fi as escapist fantasy, even when it was more mature oriented. That hasn't changed, kids would still love Star Wars even if it was more serious and grown up. It never needed Ewoks, Jar Jar, Annie, etc.

Watching the Phantom Menace right now. I like it when they're discussing how they can they possibly pay for the parts they need, and no one even mentions the possibility of whoring Natalie Portman's body out. That seems like exactly the sort of thing Jar Jar should have blurted out.

I tried watching episode 1 last night. I kept thinking about Mr. Plinkett's review every time a shitty scene came on, so I turned it off

I think I tricked myself into thinking TFM was good when I originally saw it just because I was so excited there was a new Star Wars movie. But after that excitement wore off I realized what a giant, steaming pile of shite it was. There was a few cool things in it (Darth Maul)but the Gungans and kid Anikin were so horrible. "Let's try spinning, that's a good trick!"

Maul was so utterly wasted in that film. I hate George Lucas so much.

On TNT. Hmmm. The love of endless strings of commercials is strong in this one.
