Piper Chat is going to do really well, then get go bust for some ridiculous reason. It is the formula for the show.
Hopefully Richard kills it with his new idea and the rest of the crew comes crawling back to him and they all get crazy rich.

I'm kinda want to see Danish become a billionaire and become lord over Gilfoyle
although I guess they do both own the same amount of shares

But this show always gets them close to becoming huge, and takes two steps back to mediocrity in Erlich's house of pain.

What if Piper Chat booms, Richard's New Internet idea is a lot like Pied Piper in the fact that it's revolutionary, but no one understands it? Does Piper Chat buy Richard's idea? Gilfoyle would have endless ammunition. How much stock would Erlich own in that? How the hell would Jared fit in with his obsession with Richard? Fun to think about IMO.

No, he used all of his equity in Piper Chat to buy the algorithm. He's SOL if chat booms and his new business tanks.

I am pretty sure that he did not say that he was getting a monthly fee for the use of the algorithm. Their using the algorithm "in perpetuity" was just a part of the agreement of the guys letting him buy the algorithm outright.

He said he would give them a perpetual license. To get them to do it he is making it free.
They are dumb to give them rights to that algorithm though because it is by far the most valuable thing about the vid chat

He should have said they can get the license in perpetuity and he will give up CEO spot and seat on the board if they give him 5% equity. That is more than fair.

Has to be what comes back and bites them when they start looking for funding. Since they don't own the algorithm only the license for the video chat, the company becomes less valuable because it can't be expanded.
