Rewatching and introducing this to our oldest. Just doesn't stand the test of time. There are some good performances but the story is just so unbelievable it drags it down. Yes all of the serial killers are interesting but the unrealistic sequences are bad. No one wears gloves at crime scenes or during autopsies. Who leaves a notorious serial killer in a courthouse with 2 guards? A rookie into this type of investigation? Going into houses with strange guys and not calling back up? Come on.

Still can't believe they actually gave Jodie Foster an award for that

Yes because we all watch movies for their accuracy and true- to-life details

Focus more on AHs performance. Still one of the best thrillers I've ever seen.

Bull.

For a thriller, it's rewatchable Shawshank-esque...Your specific criticism could apply to Shawshank as well, so go figure.

I was never impressed with it the first time I saw it. Just seemed fairly ridiculous all around. Hannibal Lecter was more comical to me than menacing. Not surprised it hasn't held up well.

This. Does not hold up well.

On the other hand, Manhunter has held up far better.

Completely disagree. I've seen it recently and enjoyed every minute of it. Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill are some of the most memorable characters in movie history.

On the contrary, man, the film still holds up.

Never was a big fan of this one. I enjoy Manhunter so so much more.

I agree that it doesn't hold up that well, but for different reasons than you've stated.

The story and plot are fine, but the production value seems pretty low, it seems almost like some made for TV movie.

It's at its best when it focuses on Hannibal's and Calrice's relationship, but their individual scenes / stories are much less interesting. It's always bothered me that Hannibal turns into a cartoon at the end; his escape scene is unintentionally hilarious.

But it's a very good movie with some amazing acting.

Of course it does. Not a bad performance in the film. And Hopkins' performance is one for the ages.

I still get a little sweaty watching Starling go in Buffalo Bill's house. Chick had brass balls.

It's certainly a movie in which a cellphone would completely change the story.
