I think HBO Now ($14.99) and now Showtime ($10.99) are way overpriced for what they offer, especially when you compare them to Netflix ($7.99). I think these expensive alacarte services don't really make it that attractive to ditch your cable service and cut the chord. They need to be priced much lower IMO.

isn't HBO $14.99/month if you get it through your cable provider?

yes, HBO is the same price. I think it's fine for it to.

With Hulu, Amazon, Netflix and HBO you can get most shows.

Not anymore, they did it first through HBO Now with Apple.

Atleast HBO has a good catalogue to make it somewhat worth it

no what I'm saying is that isn't HBO normally $15/month?

why would they be cheaper with their streaming service when it is the same content?

I saw an article recently that hinted HBO might offer "bundles" at a discount. The best option was the offer to pay $99 up front for 12 months of service.

Better deal than Netflix right there and I would be all over it if HBO makes it available once their Apple exclusivity expires.

There is something to be said about having available channels to flip to instead of stream. Perfect example would be high profile episodes airing like Game of Thrones. People who watch the channel never have to worry about lag.

Why? Netflix has a much larger selection.

Assuming these services don't require a certain length of subscription, it is a great deal to pay for a month and binge several things, and then cancel and wait until you have time to do it again. I would certainly wait until several HBO Shows have finished a season and pay 14.99 to watch them all at once, rather than pay for 4-6 months through cable/satellite to watch said shows week to week or on my DVR.

Same goes for Showtime. The key to me is if you can come and go as you please month to month.

I perfected this art back in the early days of Netflix streaming when I was young and poor. Except I would do free trials each time, binge everything, then cancel. A few months down the line I would start a new fee trial, binge the updated content, and cancel.

How many HBO series have you not already watched all the way through? Once you do that, you're down to waiting for the next season of Game of Thrones.
