Shows that you feel would or would not last on present day TV?

I thought about this while watching The West Wing series. A show like this would need to be on cable or premium to last the seven seasons that it did.

NBC has kind of shifted to a more comedy network from what I've seen lately.

On the other hand, a show like Freaks & Geeks would be a hit with shows like The Office & Parks/Recs doing well.

Pretty much any show that's not on TV anymore would qualify.

More like "Shows that are hot now that never would've made it 15 years ago" for 30 Rock, Walking Dead, etc...

great example.

FX was told they had to pull "Over There" after one season. I was pretty pissed about this.

My first thought.

If it did air somehow, you would get a PSA about whoever he offended right after each episode

I would've loved to see The Black Donnellys get a run on a station like AMC instead of NBC pulling the bullshite they did with it (i.e. an online-only episode just 3 in and pulling it mid-season). I think it definitely would've caught on.

Different Strokes--I was actually watching the first 2 eps the other night on some local station and couldn't believe some of the dialogue. No way they would have let that on the air now. For instance, when Willis and Arnold first show up to the Penthouse with Mr. Drummond, Willis goes to give Mr. Drummond a "brother" handshake. Mr. Drummondm, of course, screws it up. Arnold runs up to Mrs. Garret and does the same thing only she gets it right. Arnold asks Mrs. Garret if she's passing. And Mrs. Garret, says no, the only thing not real on her is her hair color or something to that effect. As a kid, I would have never picked up on this, but as an adult I was like woah!
Later they show Willis chilling out in Mr. Drummond's hot tub and Mr. Drummond comes in to offer some advice to Willis and puts his hand on his bare shoulder. Arnold then comes into the room and jumps into the hot tub with only his tightie whities on. How would that look on today's tv? Old white guy has 2 half naked black kids in his hot tub
