Has there ever been a show that went completely off the rails like Sherlock? At the beginning it was a whimsical murder mystery show. By the end it was a psychological thriller TV version of Saw.

Wtf?

Just ask "true" Rick and Morty fans what they thought about this last season.

Most shows do at some point.

Among the others already mentioned, I'll add House of Cards

I don't understand and/or agree with your analysis at all.

The entire series revolved around the socially inept Sherlock and his eventually absolute dependency of Watson. and I thought they evolved his character perfectly. The end of Ep. 2 and beginning of Ep. 3 of season 4 is some of the best television IMO.

ETA Shows evolve. If they don't, incredibly boring to me.

It should have ended at Season 3. Season 4 was a year late so they gave us that abortion of a movie The Abominable Bride and then season 4 was just as bad.

With the Moriarty stuff hanging out there? Sure thing.

I thought it was brilliant. Cumberbatch and Freeman did a great job adapting their characters to what original intent was supposed to be instead of their interpretation of Holmes and Watson. How it tied to that period and modern day was great.

Opinions are opinions, but this one is a bad one.

I loved Seasons 1, 2 and 3 and have watched them through 6 or 7 times. I almost walked out of the movie and cant even remember what it or season 4 was about.

They ran out of ideas and it showed.

I really don't get, if you're a fan of the series, that you can't appreciate what they did with Sherlock and Watson, along with the Holmes family backstory.

Season 4 was completely bonkers. They literally turned Sherlock into a fricking psychic/superhero. It's one thing to be a socially awkward sociopath who happens to spend his time as a genius detective. But the shite he pulled in Season 4, especially the finale , took suspension of disbelief and force-fed it steroids & meth.

I can't count the number of times I rolled my eyes at the sheer ridiculousness, that the writers expected you to take seriously, in S4 of Sherlock.

Examples? I'm honestly not sure what you're referring to.
