The Good Wife. If you can get over the title.

Friday Night Lights
House of Cards
Mad Men
True Detective
Bloodline

All have appeal for all viewers and not just one gender.

Justified. Women love Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens.

Also try Burn Notice but stop watching when the storyline gets too serious.

If so, stop after 4, or potentially 5.

If you continue past 5, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I'll add Friday Night Lights, Arrow, Californication.

FNL is great (minus season 2)
Arrow is fun and enjoyable
Californication is fun and funny but not as good as other shows mentioned. Just a fun watch.

Dexter thru Season 4 was pretty solid TV. Only reason to watch after Season 4 is his last girlfriend.

LOST
Breaking Bad
GOT (my favorite, she doesn't care for it)
Suits
Entourage
Pretty Little Liars (not my choice, but she likes it)
Dexter, The Wire as were mentioned.

I also suggest Battlestar Galactica (2004). My wife is not into Sci-Fi, but she enjoyed this show almost as much as I did. I know other couples that loved this show as well. It's a drama set in space - politics, love, sex, religion, battles, etc. It has strong female characters as well.

If you're looking for something comedic:
Parks and Rec (mentioned, give it into S2, some of the best characters ever created).
Better Off Ted (2 seasons only, but well worth it).
Arrested Development (often a recommendation of here, once you're into the characters, hilarious).
