Selma may be in the top 3 movies about the Civil Rights movement and accomplished its goals effectively. I could watch it again.

American Sniper is nowhere near the top of the war movie list, and I felt that it didn't really do much or accomplish much of what it intended. I don't really get the urge to watch it again. It isn't even Eastwoods best war movie (Letters from Iwo Jima).

I thought Selma was boring and turned it off after 45 minutes.

I guess people just have different preferences in movies

War movies are better than CR movement movies. The 10th best war movie is greater than any CR movie.

American Sniper isn't even the best sniper movie.

Yeah of course, Civil Rights topics just don't play well on Tigerdroppings. Which is surprising because all the progressive, deep thinking posters on this site are just sooooooo open minded.

I haven't seen either, but intend to. I've heard good things about both, reviews for American Sniper seem more mixed.

I would take reviews for Selma with a grain of salt. If anyone dared to pan it the SJW would end their career faster than if they refused to make pizza for a gay wedding.

If we're talking Civil Rights movies I'll take HBO's Boycott with Jeffrey Wright as MLKjr. over Selma. I couldn't get into Selma.

I agree. But many will not.

I really liked AS. Haven't seen Selma because I heard it wasn't that good but I may give it a go.

Just curious...what other sniper movies are better than American Sniper?

It may be hard for many many people to watch a fawning Civil Rights movie when these same people believe the CURRENT Black Civil Rights Movement in America are literally the worst people in the country. A lot of people have RACE-ANGST-FATIGUE, and this was proven by all the Selma discussions at the time the movie was released.

I have seen neither, although I dropped a Pimpette off at Selma on opening day. I'll catch them both on Netflix eventually.

Not really. They were the two most controversial movies at the oscars because of inclusion/exclusion on nomination lists. It is fair to compare them.

Most on here won't even give Selma a chance, like 12 years a slave, because of the subject material.

And Selma is certainly not the best CR movie.

I found Selma to be pretty terrible. Lead actor wasn't very good, pacing was off, and cinematography wasn't good. The anti-historical agenda was also very noticeable.

12 Years a Slave was much, much, much better.

12 Years a Slave was better than both of these movies, IMO.

This. Why would you even compare 2 completely different movies in different genres?
