Now the classic sitcom from Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David is heading to online streaming for the first time through a rich SVOD deal with Hulu. Under the pact between the streaming service and Sony Pictures TV, all nine seasons and 180 episodes of Seinfeld will be available on Hulu as its exclusive SVOD provider. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed, but word is that the license fee fetched by Seinfeld is north of $700,000 per episode for a total in the neighborhood of $130 million. I hear that is higher than — as much as double — the per-episode price the show’s Must See TV companion Friends landed from Netflix.

Seinfeld has become like the Andy Griffith show for me. I know every episode so well that I don't have to watch them any more. I'll see the opening, say to myself, "oh yeah, I know this one," chuckle at the storyline, and surf on to something else.

As long as TBS pays good money for it, they will still show it. Hulu can make more money off TBS than their with their own site.

This really strikes at the heart of On Demand Viewing vs. Channel Surfing. If there's nothing on and I land on Seinfeld I'll let it play, but I don't see myself going to a streaming service to start a random episode. NetFlix et al should make some themed streams, channels for lack of a better word, that you can just pop in mid show like TV now. The syndicated sitcom channel would be great for background viewing.

This is why I don't think the cable model will ever completely go away. I know the hippsters want everything on demand, and obviously that's great at times, but there are times when a lot of us just want to surf. If I'm on Netflix, I want to watch something in particular, i feel almost obligated. Where as when surfing i routinely stumble on stuff, sometimes I'll watch it all from the point i land, others part of it and move on, sometimes its stuff I've seen or know, other's something I had no idea about before hand. Sometimes i like stuff on in the back ground.

Yeah, I won't watch Seinfeld on demand. I've seen every episode so many times. It's better to be surprised by TBS.

90s simpsons episodes on the other hand...

I'm glad you like. It is always so awesome that everyone has to take everything so literally. So i will try and use modifiers. What I mean is a lot of times the "cord cutters", who tend to be young, tech savy people, that, I'm sorry, can come across as smug, kind of too cool for school types that I call hipsters, for lack of a better term and the sake of simplicity.

They've been declaring the death of cable for while and while there is a lot to hate about cable companies and that model, there are also benefits to it as well, that get over looked in the zeal to jump on the new, "hip" thing like video streaming on demand.

even w/your justification its still a shitty usage that doesn't even make much sense when you realize that people who like on demand come from all types of people and not just cord cutters.

also, you didnt come across as smug, you came across as woefully out of touch

I could get behind this.

Heck, add commercials and get some ad revenue off of it.

how about young people are generally speaking poorer and therefore less willing to pay money for something they can find for free elsewhere?

if that makes me a hipster, then give me my skinny jeans and sign me up
